  • Create a welcoming presence for staff, clients, patients and visitors, and using a customer service approach
  • Communicate courteously and effectively with individuals presenting at site entrances and identify if their access to the site is essential
  • Screen each individual accessing the site by following established and documented processes
  • Attend site safety meetings and follow current direction and criteria for usage

Qualifications:


  • Graduation from Grade 1
  • One year's recent related experience
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience is acceptable.

Detailed Overview:


Reporting to the Manager or Designate and in keeping with the Provincial Health Orders, the Patient Ambassador provides a welcoming, informative, and respectful presence at site entrances ensuring that safety and infection prevention & control protocols are followed.

Greets and engages with all individuals accessing the site such as essential care partner(s) and visitors, employees, deliveries and contractors, to ensure their attendance at the site is essential and to ensure non-essential visitors understand entrance restrictions.


The Patient Ambassador supports the safety of patients, clients, residents and their families, and staff, by communicating information about visitor limits in a thoughtful and informative manner.


Responsibilities:


  • Creates a welcoming presence for staff, clients, patients and visitors, and using a patient/person and family centred care approach communicates courteously and effectively with individuals presenting at site entrances and identifies if their access to the site is essential:
  • Employees, Medical Staff, and Care Providers
  • verifying documentation such as checking employee identification and confirming working relationship to the site.
  • Patients, Outpatients, and Essential Care Partner(s) and Visitors identifying information such as relevant documentation, appointment details, and patient visitor access forms.
  • Deliveries, Contractors, Lab Services identifying details of visit such as requisitions, relevant documents, and confirming purpose of visit with the site unit.
  • Works in partnership with patients, clients, residents, staff and essential care partner(s) and visitors to inform the actions they need to take to prevent the spread of infection and to follow current health service area infection and prevention control processes and guidelines.
  • Cultivates a safe and informed environment for individuals with access to the site, by reinforcing and emphasizing established infection prevention protocols, personal protective equipment (PPE) usage and criteria, and proper hand hygiene techniques.
  • In accordance with established procedures, directs essential patients and employees to assessment/testing centers, notifying other appropriate site personnel as required, and provides further directions to patients and essential care partner(s) and visitors regarding the location of various departments and services.
  • Reports safety and security incidents to supervisor and other site personnel as required. Adheres to violence prevention and cultural humility and safety training guidelines.
  • Ensures that patients and visitors are following safe physical distancing measures in accordance with established guidelines, such as maintaining physical distancing at entrance lineups and monitoring elevators and assisting with loading/unloading.
  • Attends site safety meetings and follows current direction and criteria for usage (donning and doffing) of personal protective equipment (PPE) and for providing PPE to staff, outpatients, essential patient escorts, and visitors.
  • Maintains a clean workspace by following established cleaning procedures including wiping down workstations and hand sanitizer stations.
