Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT)

Calgary Wildlife is currently recruiting a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT, part-time/full-time) to join our team. This is an exceptional opportunity for a motivated technician to expand their knowledge and practice quality wildlife emergency medicine.

Our wildlife RVTs have extensive exposure and involvement in patient care for specialty patients, providing a rich variety of cases.

ABVMA registration must be complete by first day of employment. New graduates with temporary student ABVMA licensing is acceptable.

Completion of the Basic Wildlife Rehabilitation course with the International Wildlife Rehabilitation Council and Rabies Vaccination is a requirement.


Responsibilities include:
Food preparation

Cleaning cages

Husbandry

Medical exams, treatment, and lab work under the supervision of the lead veterinarian, clinic supervisor, and Director of Wildlife Care and Services.

Communicate with the public/veterinary clinics regarding wildlife concerns and transfers of animals to the centre

Coordinate and supervise volunteers for wildlife care and rescues

Maintain records

Transitioning paper records to a digital format by performing data entry

Cleaning and preparing exam rooms pre and post-patient

Sending tissue and fluid samples to a lab for analysis or using on-site equipment to conduct tests


Qualifications/Requirements:

18 years of age or older

Registered AHT and be eligible for registration with AAAT/ABVMA in Alberta

Rabies vaccinated or willing to obtain vaccination (proof of vaccination and titre value required)

Have a passion for wildlife rehabilitation, husbandry, veterinary medicine, wildlife conservation, ecology, or related field.

Strong work ethic, dependable, honest

Work well as a team as well as under mínimal supervision

Ability to work under pressure and multi-task

Must be available to work days, evenings and weekends, Calgary Wildlife is open 365 days/year.

Wage $20/hr-$25/hr dependant on experience.
