Carpentry Instructor

Term of Employment:

Monday to Friday, 8:30-4:30 pm (35 hours/week)

Location:
Main Street Campus and/or remotely as required


Construction Labourer Certificate Program

Rate of Pay:
$ $71.41 per hour

MITT is seeking is seeking an energetic and knowledgeable term contract instructor for its Construction Labourer Certificate Program.

This program is delivered at the Main Street Campus and is part of the Indigenous Youth Development Canada project, which includes Indigenous youth aged The hours of work are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday, on-site at the Main Street Campus location (765 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB).


Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:


  • Instructing courses using MITT curriculum; utilizing appropriate and creative instructional methods to enhance the student learning experience, and ensuring engagement in learning activities.
  • Using relevant technology to support instruction in online and blended learning courses.
  • Ensuring the alignment of course deliverables with course learning outcomes, relevant competency frameworks, and industry requirements.
  • Preparing, administering, and evaluating assessments; providing assessment marks and feedback to students in a timely manner to ensure they have time to learn and improve.
  • Planning lessons and classroom activities, consistently demonstrating preparedness for class.
  • Planning and monitoring practicum placements and evaluating practicum assessments. Preparing practicum materials, and conducting onsite practicum placement visits.
  • Ordering supplies and materials for classes within allocated budget parameters.
  • Fostering adaptability, teamwork, and collaboration in students, preparing activities that focus on both individual and group work
  • Fostering a positive and respectful classroom environment, motivating students to behave in a professional manner while they accomplish their educational goals.
  • Providing fair, supportive, and consistent feedback to students to assist them with accomplishing their educational goals.
  • Maintaining and entering accurate and relevant student information and recording grades and student notes in the Student Information System, ensuring this information is entered in a timely manner.
  • Providing the opportunity for students to give feedback on their educational experience, encouraging continuous improvement of instructional methods and the overall program.
  • Communicating and collaborating with Main Street Campus staff to plan communitybased projects, create individual learning plans, to identify potential guest speakers, to support campusled events, and to promote the Construction Labourer Certificate program to potential employers/practicum placement locations.
  • Reviewing and evaluating one's own teaching and learning strategies and methodologies to ensure selfassessment and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • 35 years of related work experience in the full scope of the carpentry/construction trade.
  • Interprovincial Certificate of Qualification (Red Seal)
  • Carpenter.
  • Experience instructing, training or facilitating adult learners.
  • Postsecondary instructional experience is an asset.
  • Experience instructing, training or facilitating Indigenous learners is an asset.
  • Completion of Certificate in Adult Education or related discipline is an asset.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development in adult learning principles and methodologies.
