Description:


  • Reporting to the Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Faculty of Science and Technology, the Laboratory Technician assists teachers in the preparation and presentation, supervision and evaluation of all Simulation Mannequins and their associated peripherals. The Technician will also be responsible for the maintenance and repair of the laboratories and equipment as well as other electronic systems and instruments in the simulation area.
  • More specifically, but not limited to, the Laboratory Technician:
  • Coordinates and works with other staff in the scheduling of simulation among users by establishing priorities and maximizing operational time;
  • Prepares and sets up simulations (all levels of fidelity and standardized patients);
  • Assists in programming simulators and running simulation equipment during simulations;
  • Is present during all simulations, acting as a resource to assist teachers;
  • Posts recorded scenarios to web hosting and maintains the web host;
  • Dismantles and cleans up, in between and after each simulation, ensuring that the setup is ready for the next scenario;
  • Lifts and transfers mannequins (maximum 50 lbs);
  • Troubleshoots technical issues and repairs simulation equipment;
  • Conducts maintenance and upgrades of simulation equipment;
  • Develops relationships with medical equipment and simulation technology vendors to gain their support to supply goods and services;
  • Develops inventory control procedures to monitor supply levels, allocates costs and ensures supplies are ready when needed;
  • Reviews annual expenses and manages budget within delegated authority;
  • Conducts tours of the facility;
  • Promotes offhour use of the facilities to external healthcare and other programs and organizations;
  • Is present on site and assists with other college programs and/or external organizations' use of the facilities.
Other related tasks which fall within the scope of the classification of this position may be assigned.

    Requirements:
  • Qualifications:
  • A diploma of college studies in an appropriate field of study or a diploma or an attestation which is recognized as equivalent.

Conditions related to the specific position:

  • Strong English oral and written communication skills (to be tested);
  • Functional French oral and written communications skills (to be tested);
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues, patrons and students;
  • Ability to work independently and maintain safety precautions;
  • Established ability to work effectively as a team member;
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel (to be tested);
  • Strong computer skills related to hardware, software and databases;
  • Willingness to learn maintenance, repair, upgrades of simulation technical equipment and computer software;
  • Strong Internet and network skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and positive energy regarding professional education.
