To enable this, Divisions are adding new divisional research officers to augment the expertise and bandwidth of existing highly skilled individuals already in place.

The Division of the Vice-President, Research & Innovation (VPRI) will invite these individuals together into a community of practice.


The Dalla Lana School of Public Health is a Faculty of the University of Toronto that originated as one of the Schools of Hygiene begun by the Rockefeller Foundation in 1927.

The School, which plays a critical role in the COVID-19 pandemic response, went through a dramatic renaissance after the 2003 SARS crisis and it is now the largest public health school in Canada, with more than 850 faculty, 1,000 students, and research and training partnerships with institutions throughout Toronto and the world.

With $76 million in research funding per year, including more than $31.5 million held at DLSPH, the School contributes to improving population health and health policy and health systems through discoveries and innovation in data science and AI, maternal, child and reproductive health, climate change [response], implementation and improvement sciences, preventable disease through vaccines and prevention through [and] wellness such as with diabetes, comparative health policy, sustainable and equitable health systems, global and Indigenous health, among many other areas.

The Office of Research (OR) at DLSPH is supported by a goal-driven ambitious team who has contributed to a 2.5 times increase in research funding held at DLSPH over the past fiveyears.

The OR provides pre
- and post-grant research support to approximately 90 core faculty members at DLSPH, as well as status faculty submitting and holding their grants at DLSPH. The mandate of the OR is to support faculty members with research services and to develop strategies to increase research funding held at DLSPH.


Your opportunity:


The Strategic Research Development Officer (SRDO) will support the Dalla Lana School of Public Health's (DLSPH) research community to advance the DLSPH's and the University of Toronto's strategic research administration activities.

The position will work in collaboration with the Division of the Vice-President Research & Innovation (VPRI).


Your responsibilities will include:


  • Researching and recommending untapped funding opportunities and opportunities for new partnerships
  • Developing project schedules including milestones, critical path, timelines, deliverables and reporting
  • Developing and implementing plans that support the attainment of faculty research awards and honours
  • Liaise with VPRI awards office to develop and assess strategy and metrics

Essential Qualifications:


  • Master's degree in a related field or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum five (5) years' of relevant work experience managing research grants and identifying, developing and executing strategies for research and partnership development
  • Experience researching, identifying, and advising on research funding opportunities and collaboration (e.g. NSERC, NGOs, private sector)
  • Experience developing project schedules including milestones, critical path, timelines, deliverables and reporting
  • Proven experience in strategic planning and project management
  • Experience working simultaneously on multiple complex programs with competing deadlines.
  • Strong decisionmaking skills; superior planning and project management skills with a focus on executing and competing tasks under pressure and within deadlines
  • Ability to maintain a broad perspective; ability to build and maintain effective relationships with all levels of faculty, staff, senior administration and external constituents
  • Ability to understand a complex relational database on research funding
  • Clientservices oriented with demonstrated listening and critical thinking skills
