Family and Community Counselling (FCC) Program

Native Education College (NEC) opened in 1967 and became British Columbia's largest private Indigenous College. NEC's
purpose is to contribute to an Indigenous, holistic experience that positions the Indigenous learner to uphold their
responsibility and obligations to their family and nation of origin as autonomous Peoples. NEC provides culturally relevant
education and training for Indigenous Peoples to pursue career aspirations and enhance academic goals in alignment with
their diverse cultural identities and traditional knowledge. The NEC longhouse offers access to many resources and in-house
support, including cultural and spiritual support, funding, counselling, and career advising from a culturally authentic lens.

Reporting to the FCC Program Manager, NEC seeks an F/T instructor to provide student support, teach 4 courses each fall and
winter semester and 1 course in the spring semester, and assist with practicums, curriculum development, and planning,
including online Moodle development and other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

Any combination of education and work experience as follows will be considered:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (Master's or PhD preferred).
  • At least 2 years' experience in a relevant field.
  • Significant teaching experience, preferably in the postsecondary education system.
  • Excellent verbal, written and computer communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous Peoples' values, communities, instructional methodology, and experience working
with Indigenous adults and organizations.

  • Curriculum development and lesson planning are priorities.
  • Knowledge about assessment for learning and assessment of learning from an indigenous lens
  • Experience navigating Moodle is a must.

Appointment to this permanent, regular position with a probationary period will require a formal criminal record check, the
details of which may preclude an offer of employment from being finalized. Preference will be given to qualified Indigenous

Days of Work:
Monday-Friday 8:30-4:30 pm, 35 hrs/week

Salary:
$40.45/ hour as per Collective Agreement
