    What can I expect to do in this role?

    In this role, you will:

    Using your expertise in the field of geotechnical engineering and pavement design, you will:


    • provide engineering services for highway projects
    • monitor and review consultant work
    • participate in design review meetings
    • conduct design assessments and warranty inspections
    • prepare technical reports
    • provide geotechnical engineering information, advice and services

    How do I qualify?

    Mandatory



    • You are a Professional Engineer, licensed with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)
    • The position requires the successful candidate to have a valid class G driver's licence or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's licence upon being hired.

    Technical Knowledge

    You have:


    • Knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices of civil or geotechnical engineering with special emphasis on pavement design, pavement rehabilitation, pavement management, soils mechanics, testing, slope stability, shallow foundations, earthworks, and other geotechnical aspects.
    • Knowledge of engineering materials (asphalt, concrete, granular, soils, rock and specialized products such as geotextiles).
    • Knowledge of consultant acquisition and administration in order to prepare terms of reference, recommend acceptance/rejection of Expression of Interest (EOI) requests, evaluate Request for Proposals (RFP) and Request for Quotations (RFQ) submissions.
    • Knowledge of computer software including various pavement design software, pavement management software, and word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software.
    • Knowledge of project management in order to participate on project teams, and undertake special projects in resolving unique geotechnical problems, improving efficiency and effectiveness, and improving quality of design services.

    • Analytical, decision making, and judgment skills to assess the suitability, technical soundness, risk and cost-effectiveness of pavement and foundation designs; to recognize and resolve issues that may adversely affect public interest and safety.
    • Communication and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate, to build and maintain effective working relationships and to effectively negotiate options.
