ABOUT THE ROLE
In this newly created position, the Category Manager will focus on CanWel's portfolio of siding products.

The Category Manager will be the leader of a new team at CanWel comprised of Outside Sales Specialists and Inside Sales Specialists focusing strictly on siding products.

Targeting residential and commercial siding opportunities, this role is responsible for developing sales programs for selected products.

These programs will support the sales team when promoting products to architects, specifiers, developers, contractors, engineers, designers, and building owners.

The Category Manager will develop strategies to progress sales opportunities from the identification stage to closed business. The position will have overall responsibility for pricing and promotion of assigned product lines.


As the primary liaison between CanWel Ontario and Regional Vendor representatives, you will foster partnerships with vendors to achieve pricing and quality of service objectives.

With your analytical nature, you can derive insights from data to determine industry and consumer trends to devise long-term development strategies for product categories


RESPONSIBILITIES

Category Management

  • Make forecasts for product demand to ensure the sustainability of inventory
  • Manage sales reporting including overall sales revenue, gross margin, and forecast and pipeline opportunities.

People Management

  • Coach and support Outside Sales Specialists to achieve monthly and annual sales targets.
  • Coach and manage Inside Sales Specialists to deliver excellent customer service by processing custom siding orders accurately, ordering siding inventory precisely, and producing takeoffs and quotes correctly.
  • Promote effective use of the CRM by Outside Sales Specialists.

EXPERIENCE

  • Proven experience in Category Management or similar role.
  • Experience in the siding industry preferred.
  • High level understanding of construction, blueprints, and building methods is required.

Requirements:


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Sales

  • Previous outside sales experience required in the businesstobusiness market.
  • Previous experience developing sales programs that generate business opportunities.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strong business relationships with major accounts, specifiers, architects, building owners, developers/contractors, installers, municipalities, and designers.
  • Ability to analyze data with a commercial mindset to better understand trends and consumer needs.
Other

  • Effective people management and coaching skills
  • Excellent communication skills for presentations and at a capacity to influence sales, in person and over the phone, with customers at various levels
  • Good computer skills; very comfortable with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and CRM systems.
  • Valid Canadian driver's license with a clean driving record. Maintaining a clean driving record is a condition of employment.

Education

  • Postsecondary education in business or building industry.
  • Formal sales training is required.

Travel:
This is an office-based opportunity when not visiting clients.

It is anticipated the role will travel weekly up to 25% of the time within Ontario, with occasional overnight stays.
