The line cook is a full-time position with the Berry Barn.This is a leadership position and it is expected that the individual will treat everyone with whom she/he interacts with respect and dignity.
Your safety, and the safety of your entire team, is your highest priority at the Berry Barn.The individual is responsible for coordinating, and directing all aspects of kitchen operations while maintaining high-quality menu options and service levels.
The Kitchen line cook is expected to maintain appropriate inventory and supply levels, create and prepare menu items in an efficient manner.
The individual is further required to ensure the safe and healthy preparation of meals and sanitation techniques at all times to avoid cross-contamination and the spoiling of food and beverages.
Key Responsibilities:
- Always speak in a measured and pleasant manner and greet every associate and guest of the Berry Barn with a smile.
- Immediately report, record and act on any near misses, slip/trips/falls, accidents or injuries to your supervisor. Fill out all appropriate forms and ensure that appropriate steps are taken to care for staff and actions taken to minimize the recurrence of safety issues.
- Strong organizational skills are required for the effective and efficient operations of the staff and kitchen area.
- Orientate all staff including a thorough review of Berry Barn policies, procedures and practices.
- Prepare all required paperwork, including forms, reports, and schedules in an organized and timely manner.
- Responsible for maintaining appropriate cleaning schedules for kitchen floors, mats, walls, hoods, and other equipment and food storage areas.
- Ensure all food is stored, prepared, handled and presented to standard (Including Food Safe).
- Ensure all equipment is kept clean and dept in excellent working condition through personal inspection and by following the preventative maintenance program.
- Work with suppliers to ensure that all products are ordered according to predetermined product specifications and received in correct unit count and condition and deliveries are performed in accordance with the restaurant's receiving policies and procedures.
- Responsible for inspecting that proper food holding and refrigeration temperature control points are maintained.
- Provide safety training in proper lifting, carrying and moving of materials.
- Ensure all associates have up to date Food Safe and WHIMIS training and certification.
- Be knowledgeable of restaurant policies regarding personnel and administer prompt, fair and consistent corrective action for any and all violations of company policies or procedures.
Key Requirements:
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills. Must be able to communicate clearly with managers, kitchen and dining room personnel and guests.
- Post-Secondary diploma in Business Management, Culinary Arts or Hospitality considered an asset.
- Minimum 1year experience as a kitchen employee.
- Must be able to reach, bend, stoop, squat, stand for extended periods of time and frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must view the safety of employees as a priority.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and direct a team with the ability to respond quickly in a dynamic and changing environment
- Knowledge of cost analysis, fiscal management, and budgeting techniques.
- Enthusiastic, creative team member, able and excited to participate in the Berry Barn community life.
