Overview:


Reporting to the Senior Manager Compensation this role supports the Compensation team and the HR community in all aspects of compensation in regard to reviewing data and market trends to ensure the company remains competitive in attracting and retaining top talent.

The role is involved in the administration of compensation processes and programs to comply with compensation best practices.

The position works closely with HR as well as Payroll and other areas of the organization to ensure alignment with overall business objectives.


Job Responsibilities/Accountabilities:


  • Compensation Planning: Support the development, implementation, and administration of compensation programs, policies, and guidelines; this includes ad hoc projects throughout the year, annual salary planning, as well as shortterm and longterm incentive plan execution.
  • Job Evaluations: Collaborate with HR partners to conduct job evaluations to ensure internal and external equity. Provide market data to support decisions for grading, salary adjustments, promotions, etc.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Advise HRBPs in the administration and implementation of compensation policies and programs and ensure alignment with established guidelines (pre and post integration based on final approvals). Participate in the development and delivery of information and training sessions for HRBPs, managers and employees to facilitate their understanding of our compensation programs.
  • Data Analysis and Compliance: Complete general and ad hoc compensation surveys for purpose of maintaining the internal and external equity while ensuring compensation policies remain competitive. Participate in the analysis of compensation policies to ensure compliance with laws and regulations (Canada and United States) and to be competitive with our reference markets.
  • Stay abreast of local, state, federal, and country laws and regulations related to compensation.

Key Skill Sets:


  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Working knowledge of the pulp and paper industry and ability to grasp new concepts easily.
  • Ability to manage and direct consultants/vendors/partners.
  • Ability to distill complex technical, legal, and regulatory language to enable a variety of audiences to understand how an action may impact Domtar's business.
  • Ability to interact appropriately with all levels of government leaders and business executives.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to facilities and government and association offices.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bilingual (
    Intermediate French & Fluent English*), spoken and written.
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or relevant experience in compensation (advisory role, analysis, process administration and improvement, experience handling compensation yearend processes and tools).
  • 2 to 4 years of related work experience
  • Strong advisory skills and customer oriented.
  • Good knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, including proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Skilled with HR information systems and compensation tools.
  • Good analytical ability, editing and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills; Experience in creating presentations, writing policies and guidelines.
  • Teamwork skills and ability to collaborate with internal partners.
  • Planning and organizational skills, sound judgment, rigor, and attention to details.
  • Able to multitask and be persuasive to resolve problems.
