Scope of Position


The Payroll Analyst is primarily responsible for assisting in the accurate processing of payroll and transmittal to the payroll provider within established deadlines.

This also includes the maintenance of the staff self-service function and responding to staff inquiries in a timely and professional manner.

The Payroll Analyst is also responsible for maintaining internal controls related to their position and for performing any other related duties as delegated by the Team Lead, Payroll or Manager, Finance Operations.


Major Responsibilities
***- Assists in the accurate processing of a high volume, bi-weekly payroll and consistently meeting established deadlines for transmittal as set by the payroll provider

  • Processes employee timesheets and obtains timesheet approvals where necessary
  • Ensuring that all payroll changes are adequately documented to allow for proper second level review and/or for future reference such as internal/external audits, reconciliations, etc.
  • Diligently monitors Payroll Inbox and addresses and resolves employee issues in a timely manner, providing complete and accurate information in response to inquiries
  • Assists in responding to various inquiries such as from internal/external auditors and/or other external stakeholders (e.g., CRA) as well as investigating/correcting discrepancies as required
  • Assists in the preparation of payroll journal entries and journal entry support
  • Maintains and archives employee payroll files and documentation
  • Other duties as delegated by the Team Lead, Payroll or Manager, Finance Operations

Qualifications
Education / Certifications / Experience

  • Postsecondary education in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting and/or Payroll
  • 2+ years of payroll experience
  • 1+ year of accounting experience an asset
  • Completed or in the process of completing Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation considered a strong asset
  • Direct experience with ADP Workforce Now and/or HRIS
  • Experience with accounting software is a definite asset
Knowledge / Skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of payroll practices, legislation and trends
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office with an emphasis on Excel
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail at a high level
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate highly detailed tasks, determine priorities and organize work in a manner that allows for timely completion of projects
  • Proven ability to work within a fastpaced environment while consistently meeting deadlines
  • Proven ability to work with highly confidential information while demonstrating tact and discretion
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively
