Description/Duties
Mustang Contracting is an established and growing Commercial Construction Electrical Contractor based out of Surrey, BC, with active projects throughout the Lower Mainland.
We are always looking to expand our team with a motivated, hard-working individual looking for secure, year-round work to develop their leadership skills as a lead hand.
PLEASE NOTE:
There is no set start date for this lead hand role, we are looking to build our talent pool of individuals who are interested in future opportunities.
The Lead Hand assists the Foreperson with overseeing and coordinating slab, rough-in, and finishing tasks to ensure high-quality electrical installations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Technically capable journeyperson electrician.
- Work closely with Foreperson or Project Manager to preplan and prepare "task" drawings, etc.
- Responsible for assigned workers (crew sized to allow working full time on the tools).
- Maintain efficient and secure tool and material handling system, coordinate with Foreperson or Project Manager, if required. Communicate with site general foreperson and other sub trades; refer extended communications to Foreperson or Project Manager. If performing service role, communication with client may be required.
- Demonstrate a strong, enthusiastic work ethic on the job.
- Provide adequate instructions and coaching to workers.
- Keep paperwork up to date as directed by Foreperson and keep a daily log.
- Read and interpret drawings, circuit diagrams and electrical code specifications to determine wiring layouts for new or existing installations.
- Pull wire through conduits and pathways in walls and floors.
- Install brackets and hangers to support electrical equipment.
- Install, replace and repair lighting fixtures and electrical control and distribution equipment, such as switches, relays and circuit breaker panels.
- Splice, join and connect wire to fixtures and components to form circuits.
- Test continuity of circuits using test equipment to ensure compatibility and safety of system, following installation, replacement or repair.
- Troubleshoot and isolate faults in electrical and electronic systems and remove and replace faulty components.
- Connect electrical power to audio and visual communication equipment, signaling devices and heating and cooling systems.
- Conduct preventive maintenance programs and keep maintenance records.
- Communicating with clients in a professional, courteous manner at all times.
- Collaborating with construction workers and other crew members.
- Willing to coach apprentices as required.
- Other related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- Certificate of Qualification.
- Red Seal Designation an asset.
- 2+ years of experience as a Journeyperson.
- Leadership skills and ability to work well within a team.
- Flexibility to adapt to different project requirements.
- Practical experience working with electrical systems and equipment.
- Ability to read technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problemsolving skills.
- Ability to handle criticism appropriately.
- Ability to lift approximately 50lbs.
- A valid driver's license and reliable transport.
- Basic hand tools and cordless power tools.
- FSR B Certification an asset.
