JOB OVERVIEW

  • This project will serve First Nations communities and is implemented in partnership with Kmawuhsahtipon-Togi Pematioog-Moving Forward SidebySide (KTMF) initiative in New Brunswick. The KTMF initiative will implement the New Brunswick First Nation Cancer Plan, , in collaboration with Partners.
  • This is a fulltime contract position until December 2024, with a possibility of extension for an additional two years. The position can be based anywhere in New Brunswick.
  • This position will contribute to the health recommendations in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action that calls for the establishment of measurable goals to identify and close the gaps in health outcomes between Indigenous and nonIndigenous communities in consultation with Indigenous peoples and will be grounded in the rights of Indigenous peoples to live in dignity, and maintain and strengthen their own cultures and traditions as outlined in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
  • Under the direction of the Manager, Cancer Prevention, and with input from the KTMF Commercial Tobacco Cessation Advisory Committee, the Commercial Tobacco Cessation Project Lead will support the development and implementation of Talk Tobacco services in New Brunswick.
- the Commercial Tobacco Cessation Project Lead will meet with First Nations leaders, health care providers and community members to learn more about their commercial tobacco cessation program and service needs. The meetings will introduce the Canadian Cancer Society's Talk Tobacco program and determine if the program's services will meet community needs, or if there are other solutions or adaptations preferred. WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

Lead all project activities including engagement with stakeholders, focus group facilitation and report writing.

  • With input from the KTMF Commercial Tobacco Cessation Advisory Committee, determine who will be engaged in the consultation.
  • Identify and finalize the data collection tools that will be used in leadership, health care provider, and community engagement with input from the Advisory Committee.
  • Coordinate and lead engagement sessions including key informant interviews and community focus groups to determine how commercial tobacco programs or services can be shaped to meet the needs of the community.
  • Summarize and document information gathered in engagement sessions and prepare briefs to share back with those who participated in the consultation, the Advisory Committee, and KTMF.
  • Ensure the Advisory Committee receives regular updates.
  • Contribute to the development of quarterly funder reports.
  • Develop and maintain strong partner relationships.
Actively participate as a member of the Cancer Prevention Programs and Services Team

  • Work with relevant internal CCS departments in the planning, development, and implementation of program activities.
  • Work closely with CCS's Talk Tobacco team members.
  • Actively contribute to our culture of justice, belonging, equity, diversity, and inclusion by ensuring that all staff feel represented and heard regardless of their gender, age, religion, ethnicity, and nationality or race.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Related postsecondary education in the field of health promotion and prevention, health sciences, community development or social work.
  • More than 3 years, up to and including 5 years similar or related general experience in progressively more important positions.
  • Proven project coordination, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of developing question guides, facilitating meetings, conducting community engagement and report writing.
  • Expertise in effectively working with First Nations partners and stakeholders and knowledge of First Nations governance and organization in New Brunswick.
  • Experience, knowledge and understanding of New Brunswick's First Nations cultures and health/socioeconomic issues/needs.
  • Ability to speak/understand a First Nations language spoken in New Brunswick and/or French would be an asset.
