Based out of the Electrical Division Edmonton (EDE) location, the Journeyman Machinist will report to the Manufacturing Supervisor of the Fabrication department.
Essential Responsibilities
- Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products.
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.
- Set controls to regulate machining and enter command to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control media.
- Perform all aspects of programming: set controls to regulate machining, and enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
- Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
- Perform precision machine operations using basic and specialized tools.
- Responsible for inventory of tools, placing orders and ensuring work area has sufficient stock to perform duties.
- Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials onto machines.
- Measure, examine and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications.
- Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
- Diagnose machine malfunctions and determine need for adjustments or repairs.
- Responsible for ensuring quality as well as performing checks on machined pieces to ensure they are properly lubricated and cooled.
- Clean and maintain machines, tools and equipment to ensure proper operation.
- Establish work procedures for fabricating new structural products.
- Evaluate experimental procedures, and recommend changes or modifications for improved efficiency.
- Test experimental models under simulated operating conditions for such purposes as development, standardization, and feasibility of design.
- Assist Lead Hands with training and mentoring other employees.
- Promote a safety culture as well as attend all safety meetings.
- Ensure quality by following standard work/process instructions and identifying any potential risks to product quality.
- Ensure that work areas remain clean and well organized.
- Other duties as required.

Qualifications
- Minimum education level of a High School diploma is required.
- Valid Journeyman Machinist Ticket or Red Seal certification.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience, working as Journeyman in fabrication.
- Familiarity with MES (Manufacturing and Execution System).
- Safety certifications are an asset for the position.
- Experience with machining different materials such as stainless steel and copper.
Working Conditions
- Safety sensitive position in a temperature controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities.
- Must wear personnel protective equipment at all times (i.e., hard hats, safety glasses and safety harnesses) when required.
- Working with and around loud machinery for the majority of the shift.
- Working around other trades and unskilled labor.
