With 15 years of experience, we have grown to become one of Alberta's largest privately owned low-voltage companies. Our services include Structured Cabling, Fiber Optic, Security, Intrusion, CCTV, Mass Notification, and Professional AV Services.

We operate from offices in Calgary and Edmonton and are committed to innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement in all aspects of our business.

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Accounting Manager to manage our team in our Edmonton office.

The Accounting Manager will play a critical role in managing the financial operations of our company and report directly to the President while collaborating closely with the Vice President of Operations.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Be an expert or highly advanced in the accounting software Sage 100 Construction.
  • Manage all elements of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
  • Oversee Payroll functions.
  • Lead monthend closing processes and financial yearend closings.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements representing the entire company, as well as segmented reports by locations and product divisions.
  • Actively participate in accounting tasks alongside managerial responsibilities.

Additional Key Responsibilities:

Budget Management: Develop and manage the company's budget in collaboration with department heads and senior management. Monitor budget variances and provide regular reports to the executive team.

Financial Analysis: Conduct in-depth financial analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and potential areas for improvement. Provide insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.

Tax Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant tax regulations, including income tax, sales tax, and payroll tax. Coordinate with external tax advisors and prepare necessary filings.

Cash Flow Management: Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure the company's financial stability. Implement effective cash management strategies, including forecasting and working capital management.

Monthly Financial Reporting: Prepare and distribute accurate and timely financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. Customize reports as needed for different stakeholders.

Financial Systems Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve financial systems and processes. Identify opportunities for automation and efficiency enhancements.

Vendor Management:Manage relationships with key vendors, negotiate contracts, and ensure timely payments. Optimize vendor relationships to achieve cost savings.

Training and Development: Provide training and guidance to accounting staff, fostering their professional growth, and ensuring that they adhere to best practices and compliance standards.

Ad hoc Projects: Undertake special financial projects and analysis as needed. These projects may include cost-benefit analysis, financial modelling, and strategic planning.

Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including the Vice President of Operations, to align financial goals with overall company objectives.

Process Documentation: Document accounting and financial processes, ensuring that they are well-documented and accessible to relevant team members.

Project Management Reporting: Fibertel is continually working on providing reports and systems to assist project managers and division directors to have better analyses on their areas of oversight. A proponent who can demonstrate past experiences in adapting, changing, and enhancing reporting functions utilizing Sage 100 would be strongly desired.

  • Expertise in Sage 100 Construction software is mandatory.
  • Proven experience in construction accounting, including familiarity with work in progress, progress invoices, statutory declarations, and schedule of values invoicing.
  • Strong financial acumen and the ability to manage all aspects of accounting.
  • Detailoriented with excellent analytical skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Selfmotivated and able to work in a dynamic environment.
  • Proven ability to work constructively and collaboratively with all staff, customers, and vendors.

Next Steps of this position:

This position is replacing Fibertel's current Accounting Manager, who is retiring and has been with Fibertel since its inception.

The successful applicant will work alongside the current accounting manager for a period of 3-5 months to allow a smooth transition.
