About the Organization

  • The Umeshappa Laboratory is located within the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Dalhousie University. The research project "Immunoregulation of Chronic Diseases
  • Mechanisms and Treatment Development
" is mainly focused on development of immunotherapeutics against chronic diseases such as cancer and autoimmunity.


Job Summary

  • Reporting to the Principal Investigator (PI), the Research Technician will facilitate the laboratory's research and
-
provide technical support in performing research.


Key Responsibilities

  • Research chronic disease models in murine systems under the PI's direction (e.g., conduct biomedical laboratory tests, immunological and molecular biology related experiments, and analyses).
  • Breed, maintain and monitor mice, and harvest tissue samples.
  • Order reagents, chemicals, and instruments as well as maintain lab equipment and supplies.
  • Provide support to research personnel as needed and training to others in operation of equipment and laboratory protocols.
  • Assist in the preparation of material for publication and presentation as required.

Note

  • Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work inperson on campus.

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences, Immunology, or related field with a minimum of two years of experience in biology research, including _in vivo_ studies/experiments.
  • Experience performing immunological and molecular biology works, handling animals, administering injections, and collecting tissue.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with good proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow established guidelines and protocols and to complete work assignments in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, critical thinking, and problemsolving skills.

Assets

  • Master's degree in Biological Sciences
    , Immunology
    , or related field.
  • Experience in clinical research.
