Position Title:
Developmental Disability Instructor


Pay rate:
$17-$19/per hour based on experience and skill set


Contract:1-year contract with strong chances of renewal based on performance

max of 22.5/week Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday 8:30am-3:30pm

Position Summary


At Pathways to Growth, we have a special team that strives to service the Developmental Disability Community and focus on helping those with their literacy skills, independence, and employment upskilling.

We are hiring for an energetic and passionate person for our role of Developmental Disability Instructor to teach in our program in-person in Brampton, Mississauga and online via zoom.

Program delivery is individualized within a group setting according to learners' needs and specific to their goals.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

Operational Tasks:


  • Plan and deliver instruction per class according to the curriculum coordinator's guide[s]
  • Deliver individualized programs focusing on learners' needs and goals
  • Develop learning materials and learning strategies to meet learners' needs
  • Conduct ongoing evaluations, track learner progress, and maintain learners' records
  • Integrate computer skills into programming when possible and encourage learners to use our computer lab
  • Must be comfortable working with adults, more specifically adults with developmental disabilities and familiar with common adult education methodologies.
  • Critical to be a self starter and a forward thinker to anticipate issues and be proactive to address them
  • Occasional delivery of workshops (training and material will be provided) via virtual platform may be required.

Curriculum development

  • Be familiar with helping our curriculum coordinator to create relevant, varied curriculum for learner's interests, abilities, and the structure of the program.
  • Find creative resources to draw upon for curriculum creation and incorporate them into the program.
  • Work with the internal marketing team to create social media posts and raise awareness for our program
  • Find creative ways to reach leaners both current and potential through marketing initiatives.

Skills and Qualifications:


  • Diploma in Developmental Services Worker (DSW) or a University Degree in Social Sciences.
  • Related experience working with adults with Developmental Disabilities and Autism.
  • Previous experience supporting individuals with Autism/ Dual Diagnosis/ Mental Health disorders.
  • Experience supporting individuals with unique and challenging behaviors in active treatment environments an asset.
  • Demonstrated understanding and training supporting individuals with ASD
  • Highly motivated and ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a multi cultural environment
  • Understanding disability and social equity issues would be an asset
  • Excellent reading, oral and written communication skills, as well as sound critical thinking and interpersonal skills
  • Must be committed to the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion and be able to demonstrate an understanding of these principles as they relate to students' success and goal path
  • Demonstrated understanding of the strengths and challenges of adults with multibarriers and disabilities and understand how to teach with these in mind; Understanding of how learning Disabilities can affect learning.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, tact, discretion, problemsolving skills and to work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Being comfortable with social media and knowing how to use the various platforms would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks for multiple stakeholders is critical to be successful in this role.
  • High degree of organization is critical to be successful in this role.
  • Proficient in MS Office and Google Suite this is mandatory since this is our main office software package.
  • Must be comfortable working with files on the cloud or online data storage platform.
  • Must be a self starter and take a high degree of ownership for assigned tasks.
  • Must be flexible to jump in and do what is needed to support the organizational goals and to meet objectives set forth by Program Manager and Executive Director.
  • Must show initiative and offer creative and innovative ideas to address issues in our unique space.
  • Must be able to travel between both our Mississauga and Brampton locations when needed.
