Student Central serves as the first, student-centric point of contact for many prospective students, their families, and members of the general public, as well as being a continual point of contact for current students.

The
Student Central Assistant is a full-time continuing position working in a fast-paced, student-centered team environment.

They support the provision of personal service to students with the aim of fostering a positive personal and academic student experience.

The position requires an open mind, innovative thinking, good judgment, an ability to manage stressful or sensitive situations, and a strong commitment to creating an exceptional student experience.


Responsibilities:


  • Represent the University as the point of first contact for potential students, current students, and parents and provide accurate information on the University's regulations, policies, procedures, faculties, awards, Government Student Assistance Programs and financial aids/scholarships.
  • Inform students of all payment methods (WebAdvisor credit card, online banking, cheque, etc.) and maintain an accurate cash float.
  • Collect and process various fee transactions.
  • Discuss, create, and input pay arrangements with students and forward to Student Financial Services Supervisor.
  • Assign and take payments for lockers.
  • Direct complex inquiries, requests for specialized information, and requests for policy interpretation to appropriate areas of the University.
  • Provide staff and students with informational material and various printouts.
  • Explain The University of Winnipeg's general regulations to students and staff.
  • Advise students of the procedures for processing Manitoba Student Aid loan documents.
  • Respond to various inquiries and provide information regarding admissions, financial aid programs/loans and policies/procedures at The University of Winnipeg.
  • Oversee & confirm graduation requests, compile all fees pertaining to Convocation, distribute degrees to students, and direct graduation appeals to the Convocation Officer.
  • Confirm students' enrolment.
  • Create, edit/revise correspondence and letters.
  • Complete various forms for external agencies.
  • Collect transcript request forms and release transcripts to authorized parties.
  • Inform students when grades are to be approved by the Academic Standards Committee.
  • Add/release Holds on students' records, process contact information changes to students' accounts.
  • Consult with academic advisors, Financial Services, and the registrar.
  • Inform students of their examination dates and times.
  • Receive and enter FIPPA release forms giving third party access.
  • Create duplicate taxation information forms and correct months attended on T2202s.
  • Assist students with using WebAdvisor (i.e., how to use, register/obtaining registration materials, view financial documents); compile registrations for processing in the proper sequence.
  • Create and modify registration appointment times.
  • Produce photo ID cards for designated students, meal plan, nonstudent residents, Dexterra, staff, faculty, and community ambassadors.
  • Reset and relay passwords for WebAdvisor/Nexus/Webmail, and Equitrac student accounts.
  • Assist with training casual help, when necessary.

Qualifications:


  • Must have high school diploma; undergraduate degree preferred.
  • Must have 2 years' directlyrelated experience, preferably in a university or college environment.
  • Must have significant cashhandling experience.
  • Experience in a fastpaced, highvolume customer service environment preferred.
  • Experience explaining financial charges/statements preferred.
  • Must have knowledge of University degree programs, structure and functions of Student Services, requirements, awards programs and/or government student aid programs and with the University in general.
  • Must have exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with students, staff, faculty, and the public.
  • Must have great organizational skills with the ability to set work priorities and multitask in the midst of multiple demands in an environment of regular interruption.
  • Must have strong problemsolving skills and be able to adapt to a constantly changing work environment.
  • Must be able to write expressively with correct diction, spelling, and grammar.
  • Must be able to participate effectively as a team member as well as to work independently.
  • Must be able to complete work with high accuracy and close attention to detail.
  • Required to treat personal information in a confidential manner.

An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.

Condition(s) of Employment:


  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Must be available to work shifts from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.
  • Must be willing and able to work occasional evenings and/or weekends, and occasional overtime when required.
