Description
Monitors and maintains inventory of supplies and equipment for the designated area in accordance with predetermined supply levels.

  • Completes requisitions and purchase orders for routine supplies and equipment, arranges for appropriate approvals, forwards requisitions to stores, receives incoming supplies and equipment and places stock in designated areas.
  • Types a variety of technical and nontechnical documents such as correspondence, medical reports, minutes of meetings, statements and reports from written form, drafts; composes routine correspondence for signature.
  • Performs a variety of clerical duties such as data entry, filing, photocopying, faxing, mailing and word processing. Maintains a variety of statistical and related reports; compiles, prepares, updates and distributes reports utilizing a variety of computerized software.
  • Notifies appropriate personnel of malfunctioning equipment, prepares repair requisitions and sends out equipment for repairs according to established procedures; maintains records of repairs and loaners.
  • Maintains list and location of unit equipment; moves equipment between treatment rooms and ensures necessary equipment and supplies are available as required.
  • Cleans unit equipment such as I.V. poles, suctions, stretchers, and wheelchairs utilizing established cleaning procedures. Arranges for Sterile Processing services as required.
  • Cleans procedure rooms, utilizing established cleaning procedures, including wiping down tables and other surfaces, stripping and remaking beds/stretchers, removing soiled linen and trash, cleaning and tidying shelves and cupboards, removing sharps containers to designated areas and performing spot cleaning and damp mopping as directed.
  • Porters patients, and their belongings if required, utilizing stretchers, wheelchairs and beds. Transports equipment, supplies and specimens to specified areas as directed. Observes and reports patient problems and/or changes to designated nursing staff.
  • Assists with movement of patients, as directed by nursing staff, by assisting patients to ambulate and by lifting and transferring patients to beds, chairs, treatment tables, stretchers, and wheelchairs. Follows prescribed safe lifting techniques including utilizing mechanical lifts and/or slider boards as required.
  • Performs related clerical duties such as maintaining records, answering the telephone, filing and typing.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience
Grade 12 and two years of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.


Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to keyboard at 45 w.p.m.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
