JOB SUMMARY
Lead the knowledge and skill development of employees pursuing a Class 1 license or to meet minimum company requirements for driving experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Train and develop new employees participating in the Yellow Driving Academy to safely operate company equipment and handle customer freight in compliance with all laws as well as company policies.
- Monitor and document employee progress; primary focus on driving and backing skills, vehicle inspection reports, hazardous material handling, in cab safety technology, trailer connect/disconnect, collision and injury prevention. Identify knowledge and skill gaps; provide additional assistance, as necessary.
- Train and develop new Driver Safety Trainers to support the Driver Training Program and overall Safety strategies. Monitor and document progress for employee certification.
- Conduct field safety training as required to support terminal Safety Improvement Plans.
- Coordinate vehicle and training center maintenance issues that arise.
- Ensure compliance to company policies and procedures with any and all laws.
- Establish trust and credibility by maintaining a high level of integrity and communications with terminal hiring teams to support operational performance. Align goals with Safety, Operations, Human Resources, Labor.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid Class 1 License with any endorsements or willingness to obtain endorsements within 60 days.
- MELT instructor certified.
- Pass drug test and physical.
- Minimum two (2) years professional driving experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of road laws and regulations, The Professional Driver's Handbook, and Mandatory Entry Level Training (MELT) compliance requirements.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to coach and train others.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Long/Combination/Vehicle (LCV) endorsement.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This job primarily operates in a professional office environment indoors. Routinely uses standard office equipment. Occasional work in the terminal and shop floors being exposed to the elements of heat and cold.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The position requires the ability to spend long hours sitting or standing while using office equipment and computers. Occasional lifting, pushing/pulling, and carrying 20 lbs of parts, supplies, and materials is required.
Pay:
From $53,000.00 per year
