Thunderbird Partnership Foundation is a Non-profit that supports a variety of initiatives that advocate for First Nations culturally based substance use and mental wellness services.

Thunderbird's vision is to cultivate and empower relationships that connect us to our cultural strengths and identity within wholistic and healthy communities.

Thunderbird is a leading authority on Indigenous addictions and mental wellness research.

We offer a variety of resources (guidebooks, toolkits, fact sheets, Thunderbird Wellness app, training curriculum) to support First Nations in their community planning.

We offer training (self-directed and virtual) grounded in Indigenous Knowledge to National Native Alcohol & Drug Addiction Program (NNADAP) and National Youth Solvent Abuse Program (NYSAP) treatment centre workers and First Nations community wellness workers, to support special skills and knowledge needed to work effectively with First Nations communities.

We are currently looking to fill the position of Communications Manager. This is a full-time, in office position. Our head office is located in South Western Ontario.


Position Purpose


Under the general supervision of the Chief Executive Officer and as part of the management team, The Communications Manager is responsible for supporting the information and communication needs of the Thunderbird Partnership Foundation.

The Manager will provide oversight to the full scope of communication functions, as well as the writing, editorial and production functions of the Thunderbird communication team.

The Manager provides writing and editorial expertise for print and digital product relating to substance use, addictions, mental health and mental wellness, products associated with special initiatives, and products associated with events, communication and informational purposes on behalf of the Thunderbird Partnership Foundation.

The Communications Manager will lead the Thunderbird team in the development of communication and marketing materials, including reports, articles and the Thunderbird Annual Newsletter and Annual Report.

The Communications Manager also manages the editing of web and social media content and all things necessary to produce quality, informative and engaging messaging for Thunderbird.

effectiveness to the Thunderbird Partnership the Communications Manager demonstrates interest and commitment to set and achieve professional and personal development goals.


Responsibilities

The Communications Manager will work alongside other department managers and their teams, to perform the following essential services within the framework of the Thunderbird Partnership Foundation's core policies, functions and for the provision of essential services to its partners and stakeholders:

Supervision and Performance

  • Leads all communications staff functions, systems and related activities including employee relations;
  • Assigns and monitors clerical and secretarial and administrative functions;
  • Responsible for assisting in the recruitment of staff and providing orientation and training to new employees;
  • Ensures top performance of communications staff by providing them adequate coaching and guidance, and rewarding & disciplining; planning, assigning, supervising, addressing complaints & resolving problems and assessing employees' job performance, and;
  • Establishes and maintains policies and procedures relevant to the communications team;.
  • Other Duties as Assigned.

Planning and Development

  • Oversees the planning, development, and implementation of the communications strategy;
  • Leads the development of communication and informational material to support stakeholder engagement with the organization;
  • Ensures an understanding of user needs to inform the work of the organization;
  • Develops and supports relevant contracts to support communications objectives;
  • Develops and implements an evaluation framework for communications and identifies areas for improvement;
  • Writes funding proposals for the communication program and researches other sources of funding/revenue to ensure the continuous operation of quality communication services;
  • Develops and communicates data strategies, policies, standards, and standardized reporting;
  • Confers with and advises the management team and others to provide technical advice, problem solving assistance, answers to questions and program goals and policy interpretation regarding the communication needs of the organization;
  • Other Duties as Assigned.

Implementation and Support

  • Leads in the implementation and maintenance of communication processes for all stakeholders;
