Position Summary


The Graphic Design Intern will work closely with MEDA's Marketing and Communication team to support our colleagues across the organization and in the field, and as outreach ambassadors for MEDA in the community.

The intern will assist with organizing design assets, creating digital content for social media, creating infographics, and updating graphics for the website and promotional documents.

The student will also have the opportunity to assist with the design of marketing materials including digital brochures, document layout, advertisements and internal videos.

The responsibilities will include upholding MEDA's brand standards, organizing and editing photographs, and promoting MEDA's work through graphic design in a professional and engaging way.


  • Job Status: Contract Spring/ Summer 202
  • Estimated duration of 16 weeks (dependent on funding*)
  • Start Date: May 2023
  • Location: Waterloo, ON / Hybrid/ Remotework*
  • This opportunity is contingent upon approval by the 2023 Canada Summer Jobs Program which is an initiative of the Government of Canada's Summer Work Experience Program. It is designed to focus on local priorities, while helping young Canadians and their communities. It provides funding to organizations to create summer job opportunities for youth aged 15 to 30 years. Please review eligibility requirements and ensure you meet all the criteria prior to applying.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Utilize Adobe Creative Cloud to organize shared assets for the Creative Communications Team.
  • Support in the creation of digital content for social media, web and electronic newsletter.
  • Create infographics to support clear communication of MEDA's longterm impact in countries around the world.
  • Create short videos for internal use or for use on social media (to be determined).
  • Organize MEDA's online photo repository, sourcing and tagging top marketing images in Media Valet.
  • Provide administrative assistance and support on other projects, as needed.

REQUIREMENTS

Education:


  • Enrolled in or recent graduate of a program in Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design or related field college or university program.

Canada Summer Jobs Requirements:


  • Be between 1530 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (international students with work visas are not eligible); and,
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations

Technical:


  • Experience working in Windows Office and Adobe Creative Suite, especially Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Familiarity with web content management systems and social media.
  • Strong understanding of photography and ability to assess photo quality.

  • Proficiency working in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint and Teams
  • Strong relationship building skills and proven verbal and written communication skills
  • Independent, motivated, and selfdirected
  • Familiarity with web content management systems and social media.
  • Strong understanding of photography and ability to assess photo quality.
  • Strong interest in international development.
