Description

The Library Technician - Circulation and Serials oversees all circulation functions, maintains journal records and subscriptions, processes library donations, and functions as member of library team to provide excellent library services to students, faculty, and other library patrons.


SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS:

Does not have full supervisory responsibilities but has a lead hand type of function assigning tasks and providing direction to part-time Library Assistants and/or volunteers.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB/ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee all circulation functions including patron record maintenance, processing fines and billing patrons, cash transactions and deposits
  • Document circulation policies and procedures
  • Provide patron assistance including answering inquiries, checking books out, verifying book status, research support, etc.
  • Coordinate creation and updating of course and assignment pathfinders
  • Maintain reserves collection
  • Train and oversee work of part time Library Assistants and volunteers
  • Coordinate stacks maintenance, including shelving, shelf reading, and cleaning
  • Initiate and renew journal subscriptions; check in journals; order missing back issues
  • Maintain journal records including up to date listings and electronic Table of Contents alerts to faculty and staff
  • Record and process inkind donations; request receipts from Advancement department
  • Order office and library supplies
  • Assist with bulletin board and book displays, with maintenance of library website and with other general library duties
  • Introduce patrons to the John Fairbank Memorial Library through tours, orientations, and workshops

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Required

  • Satisfactory criminal record check
  • Fully supportive of the integration of faith and learning in a Christian universitylevel setting and a commitment to the Mission of Booth University College
  • Ability to integrate your Christian faith within the workplace
  • Postsecondary twoyear diploma in Library and Information Technology
  • Proficient in basic library procedures, cataloguing procedures, bibliographic verification, Windows operating system, MS Office, AACR2r, MARC, LCSH, and LC shelving rules
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to high standards of customer service
  • Be able to resolve problems creatively and effectively and to work with limited supervision
  • Have demonstrated strengths in area of research and computer skills, including use of online databases

2. Assets (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Familiarity with maintaining and updating webpages
This is a full-time position with 37.5 hours per week.
