The Manager is the Corporate Authority for Real Estate assets' environmental policy, assessment and compliance management, sustainable design standards and certification, and heritage property management.


The Manager identifies objectives and develops environmental management and sustainability plans to ensure and maintain compliance with applicable legislation and corporate policy and strategy.

Directs and tracks implementation of these plans collaborating with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.

Leads the development of Corporate Real Estate's (CRE) environmental report to the Board of Directors, and ensures that CRE meets all other regulatory reporting requirements.


Responsibilities:

Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Manager, Real Estate Environment and Sustainability.

  • As Corporate Authority on environmental management of real property, interprets regulatory requirements, identifies CRE policy, influences corporate policy and develops CRE standards, processes and guidance documents.
  • Identifies environmental aspects requiring CRE management activity and, in conjunction with internal stakeholders and external Service Providers (SP), develops strategies and plans to address new and evolving regulatory requirements. Ensures all related regulatory reporting requirements are met.
  • Directs Environmental Compliance program to ensure legislative compliance including appropriate assessment and monitoring of any contaminated sites; develops plans, prepares budget and forecasts, directs SP and RE staff, and reviews and accepts reports.
  • Directs or provides advice and recommendations regarding environmental due diligence activities for dispositions, acquisitions, and property development / construction activities; collaborates closely with CRE Planning and Project Delivery functions to ensure compliance, protect asset value and to inform decision making.
  • Manages the preparation of CRE annual environmental report to the Board of Directors; this includes creating the framework and templates for the report, oversight and compilation of input from CRE colleagues and SP, all analysis and development of the report and presentation material.
  • Manages the selection and engagement of environmental consultants, including contractual relationships and performance management.

Job Responsibilities (continued):


  • As Corporate Authority on environmentally sustainable design, develops, establishes and monitors sustainable design policy, objectives and performance indicators (such as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
  • LEED) for major construction, renovation and maintenance projects. Provides related input to the corporate annual report and Corporate Social Responsibility report.
  • Represents the Corporation on environmental / sustainability matters in liaison with external stakeholders and environmental regulatory authorities (Environment Canada, Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency), including influencing development of new regulation and guidance, and promotion of the Corporation's leadership role in these matters.
  • Represents CPC with its bargaining units on environmental management issues such as the National Asbestos Advisory Committee (NAAC a joint management / union committee) and NAAC Notification process in collaboration with Workplace Health and Safety and external service providers. Serves as primary NAAC Management contact for CUPW.
  • As Corporate Authority on Environmental Assessment (EA), maintains CRE EA policy and process, to ensure facility project compliance with the Canadian Environmental Assessment (CEA) Act, including development of guidance, review of EA scope, reports and determinations to inform corporate decision making, and preparation of annual reporting.
  • As Corporate Authority on Heritage Buildings, develops policies and procedures for the management of CPC's heritage postal facilities. Provides professional advice to regional Real Estate staff on proposed renovations to potential heritage postal facilities so as to preserve the heritage character and integrity of these assets

Qualifications:


Education

  • Completed postsecondary, preferably in a related field OR a combination of equivalent professional experience and training

Experience

  • 3 to 5 years of relevant functional experience
