Prerequisite:


  • Possession of Certified Human Resources Professional Designation.
  • University Degree or College Diploma in relevant field.
  • Experience with employment law, staffing and selection practices.
  • Experience with various Human Resources legislation including Human Rights, Employment Standards, Health and Safety, Workplace Safety Insurance, etc.
  • Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgment, trust and integrity.
  • Successful completion of preemployment testing.
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate in a clear and concise manner both writing and verbally.
  • Proficient with MS Word and comfortable utilizing online tools across multiple platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.

Desirable Qualifications:


  • Knowledge of benefits and pension administration and claims management.
  • Knowledge of HRIS software.

Principal Tasks:


  • Respond to recruitment related queries from supervisors, members and public.
  • Develop internal and external postings in conjunction with position supervisor.
  • Ensure necessary documentation and certification requirements are received.
  • Coordinate and support interview activities including: scheduling interviews, arranging for testing, developing interview questions, preparing interview packages and participating in interviewing where appropriate.
  • Maintain record of recruitment processes.
  • Conduct onboarding of new employees including: preparing documentation for payroll; enrollment in benefit and pension plans; reviewing applicable policies and procedures.
  • Respond to general employee requests and inquiries with regards to benefits, pension, Service policies, procedures and collective agreements, seeking clarification as applicable.
  • Process employee benefit, pension (including leaves of absence, optional service purchases), salary, address changes, and annual leave changes updating and posting internal reports, as applicable.
  • Reconcile monthly benefit billings.
  • Submit report of workplace injury or absences if necessary.
  • Assist with return to work and accommodation processes as requested.
  • Maintain position descriptions documents and advise Deputy Chief of Police if notified of changes to perquisites, duties, etc.
  • Annually calculate civilian and uniform service award dates.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
The annual salary range for this position is $87,608 - $95,847.
