Role and Responsibilities


The Contract Manager reports to the Manager, Contract Management and is responsible for both contract and subcontract management duties related to a large and complex 25-year defence contract.

Working in a matrix organization, the Contract Manager will work directly with the Program Leader and other internal stakeholder, some of the responsibilities include:


  • Act as an integral member of the program team;
  • Manage both buyside and sellside activities; liaising with the client's Subcontract Management and the subcontractors' Contract Management teams;
  • Lead contract negotiations with the client and program subcontractors;
  • Administer and monitor contract and subcontract performance;
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders, including Legal Counsel, to provide expert contractual advice, guidance and support to the execution team;
  • Review all program proposals to client and create/issue flow down RFPs as required;
  • Ensure all contractual documentation is maintained;
  • Provide oversight and management of contractual issues arising during program execution;
  • Identify risk and areas of concern related to the execution of the contract;
  • Participate in program management reviews;
  • May provide briefs and presentations to Senior Leadership;
  • Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures;
  • Some travel may be required <10%
  • Possession of a University degree in Business Administration or related field of study from a recognized post‐secondary institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 57 years demonstrated experience with government and commercial contract administration.
  • Working knowledge of government/defence procurement policy and contracting principles.
  • Knowledge of government contract administration duties including subcontract flow downs, change management, inspection, acceptance, payment, warranty, closeout and records retention.
  • Knowledge of proper drafting, negotiation and use of contracts, subcontracts, P.O.'s teaming and other forms of agreements.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, negotiation, and problemsolving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fastpaced work environment while maintaining deadlines.
  • Ability to work autonomously and in a team.
  • CAE employees must be able to meet the requirements of the Canada Controlled Goods Program (CGP), and in certain cases, ITAR requirements.
