The Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching promotes, guides, and celebrates educational excellence through:

The Opportunity:


The Communications Coordinator assists in the development of cohesive, comprehensive and clear communications plans for the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching that promote and advance the Centres vision, goals, values, initiatives and success stories, and builds community with stakeholders.

This role provides portfolio-wide communications coordination and support for the Centre by working with stakeholders in developing a wide range of digital and print communication materials that ensure alignment and consistency with university branding standards.

Has the specific responsibility for consistency in voice and messaging, and accuracy and clarity in writing and editing.

In addition, this position acts as the liaison between the Centre and university communication, marketing, social media and web units such as University Relations.

The communications coordinator also organizes and oversees events with a focus on community building, with the support of the Program Assistant and student Communications and Events Support team.

  • Successful completion of a postsecondary degree in Communications, Professional Writing, Marketing, Multimedia, Journalism, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience in a communications and events role, preferably in an educational or public sector organization:
  • Developing, planning and executing tactical communications strategies, event planning, including, branding, social media, and the development, implementation and management of large, complex websites
  • Superior communication and research skills, writing and editing skills including the ability to write and edit reports, memos, etc., quickly, accurately, creatively, and with flair to deliver key messages;
  • Understanding of the different forms of media and current trends (digital media. social media, print, GAI and media platforms)
  • Understanding of communications best practices and accessibility standards.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered;
  • Proven experience in managing evolving and multifaceted relationships including indirect reports, and providing counsel and support to peers and senior leaders;
  • Experience coordinating and implementing a communications and events strategy that promotes community building with stakeholders;
  • Experience monitoring and measuring communication strategies including the use of social media metrics to improve and determine success;
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with stakeholders across the university;
  • Ability to navigate challenging situations with tact and diplomacy;
  • Sound judgment and demonstrated professionalism;
  • Strong time management skills and flexibility to effectively prioritize, multitask and ensure work completion according to deadlines;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Proactive, flexible and collaborative approach to work;
  • A thorough understanding of the different forms of media and website development;
  • Knowledge of the role of communications in the workplace;
  • Knowledge of design principles;
  • Knowledge of inclusive language and basic understanding of web content accessibility guidelines;
  • Proficient skills and knowledge working with Google Suite.
