Pumpkin Patch Daycare is looking to hire summer students to join our dynamic team. You will assist in the development and supervision of children in a multitude of capacities. The position runs approximately from June 24 to August 30 weeks 35 hours per week). With this program, students are required to attend the full 8-10 weeks every day. We are looking to hire students for various job positions within the daycare and they are as follows

  • Kitchen Assistant
  • Summer Camp Counsellor
  • Childcare Assistant
  • Inclusion Facilitator

Summer Camp Counsellor
Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Assist Early Childhood Educator with the development and implementation of the summer camp program for children years of age
  • Teach children social skills, antibullying techniques
  • Develop youth leadership skills amongst participants
  • Promote physical fitness, nutrition and health with the children
  • Implement daily physical fitness activities for children and encourage healthy life styles
  • Other centre/classroom maintenance as needed including cleaning, gardening, waste management

Kitchen Assistant
Tasks and Responsibilities

  • The participant will learn about Canada's Food Guide for children and health promotion. They will also learn about food preparation and how to maintain the maximum nutritional value when cooking, while still making it appealing to children
  • The participant will assist the cook with the preparation, serving and clean up of nutritious meals and snacks. The participant will witness first hand the benefits of nutrition for early learning and brain development
  • The participant will help to reduce the effects of poverty on children by ensuring the majority of their nutritional needs are met during their hours of care in the centre
  • The participant will perform other centre/classroom maintenance as needed including cleaning, gardening, waste management

Childcare Assistant/Outdoor facilitator
Tasks and Responsibilities

  • The participant will work alongside the Early Childhood Educator (classroom teacher) to provide early learning and care to young children
  • The participant will help the children in the development of their prosocial behaviours, early literacy skills, and school readiness, supporting "Making Hamilton the BEST Place to raise a Child".
  • The participant will assist with the classroom maintenance as required
  • The participant will learn about the effects of poverty on children and provide early intervention
  • The participant will learn about the integration of special needs children
  • The participant will perform other centre/classroom maintenance as needed including cleaning, gardening, waste management
and paperwork


Inclusion Facilitator
Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 support to a special needs child who will be participating in the program as well as assisting the entire classroom wherever needed
  • Assist the child with the various activities of the program
  • Ensure that the health needs of the child are met, water and nutrition, toileting, avoid over exertion, etc
  • Participate with the full class when individual attention is not required by the special needs child, facilitating inclusion and acceptance by other students, fostering prosocial behaviour

Necessary Qualifications include:

- police check (within the last 6 months)
- current First Aid and CPR Level C
- up to date immunizations including tetanus shot within 10 years
- clear TB skin test


Preferred qualifications include:


  • Previous experience with childcare or other related fields but not required
  • Passionate about working with children
  • Ability to build rapport with children and their parents
  • Positive and patient demeanor

Salary:
$17.00 per hour


Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
