PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
Under the supervision, direction and guidance of the Director of Legislative
Services and Town's Planning Consultant, the Junior Planner has the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist the Planning Consultant to verify if proposed developments are in compliance with applicable planning legislation, by referencing the Town's Official Plan and Zoning By-law, local official plans, Provincial Plans, and the Provincial Policy Statement.
  • Conduct site inspections of development properties or areas.
  • Participate in a variety of special projects related to monitoring and improving processes, growth management tracking, monitoring and reporting, providing advice and service to departments as planning consultant on development submissions.
  • Participates in a variety of planning projects and initiatives. Contributes to project success, ensuring timelines are met and completes various project actions and activities, as directed.
  • Researches a wide range of topics including zoning standards, site plan approval criteria, land use policies, planning issues, planning processes, in accordance with Council directives, applicable provincial policy and legislation, and in consideration of planning goals and objectives.

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES AND OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the key point of contact on all planning matters and ensure that data and information is updated and distributed in a timely and effective manner.
  • Provide administrative support to the Town's Planning Consultant by scheduling meetings, preparing agendas and taking minutes as requested.
  • Work in conjunction with the Communications Coordinator to ensure planning public meeting notices are advertised in accordance with the _Planning Act._
  • Understand and adhere to the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Town health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Postsecondary degree in Urban Planning or related discipline (e.g. Geography, Environmental Resource Studies, etc.) with One (1) year of experience working in a municipal, public or private planning office.
  • Designated as a Registered Professional Planner (RPP) with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) in good standing, or eligible for such designation.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in a planning environment.
  • Knowledge of provincial legislation regarding Planning and the Land Use Planning framework.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Excellent judgement and decisionmaking regarding the sharing of information.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Valid Class G driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
  • Excellent attention to detail, oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with staff at all levels as well as various stakeholders including the general public.
  • Strong team player with collaborative approach, excellent interpersonal, organizational, prioritization and time management skills.
  • High degree of integrity due to exposure to confidential and/or politically sensitive information.
  • Clear police background check and clean driver's abstract.
  • Political astuteness and diplomacy.

Working Conditions:

  • Visual attention for detail and health and safety while on the job.
  • Normal work week is 35 hours, Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm with a onehour unpaid lunch.
  • Attendance at meetings held in the evening and/or weekend, may be required.
  • Hybrid Work Environment: A flexible work arrangement, including the option to work remotely One (1) day is currently a possibility. (under review)

Salary:
$30.48-$35.86 per hour
