Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life: As a member of the FSQA team, the Sanitation Pre-Operational Specialist is accountable for the execution of the Sanitation Pre-operational inspection, Environmental Monitoring program, Food Safety and Quality Assurance programs. The Sanitation Pre-Operational Specialist is a key member of the facility management teams and is responsible for driving continuous improvement in a faced paced and demanding environment. Additionally, the Sanitation Pre-operational Specialist will establish and maintain positive relationships with regulatory bodies.

As a Sanitation Pre-Operational Specialist, you will:

  • Execute various initiatives to improve the plants Sanitation program
  • Must be able to train to perform daily preop inspections of the plant and equipment for cleanliness and repair. This requires excellent attention to detail, time management skills and the ability to identify issues.
  • Must be able to train to perform FSQA such as (but not limited to) temperature checks (room & product), paperwork verification, moisture verifications, label verification, hold/release, environmental swabbing and SSOP writing/reviewing.
  • Must be able to perform the various jobs in the Department, and work with mínimal supervision
  • Must have an excellent attendance record
  • Must have proven safe working habits and be able to work as part of a team
  • Able to work various shift
  • Ensure that critical Environmental monitoring data is tracked and trended for process understanding and continuous improvement purposes
  • Assist and accompany CFIA inspectors during performance of their CVS tasks
  • Assist with Non-Compliance Reports (Deviations) and inhouse disposition of materials placed On Hold including completing Risk Assessments to determine product disposition.
  • Assisting with follow up and issue any corrective actions, if necessary, based on deviations found in plant process or resulting from customer complaints or audits
  • Maintaining an attitude of continuous process improvement and training of employees
  • Participates in Food Safety and BRC meetings, BRC and FSEP audits
  • Assists with internal audits to comply with prerequisites bullets, HACCP plans, BRC and customer requirements.
  • Verification of the monitors and paperwork
  • Developing a constructive work environment through excellent interpersonal, team building skills, open communications, encouraging input and constructive performance management
  • Assist with Animal Welfare Complicance
  • Actively participate in facility leadership meetings.

What You'll Bring:


  • Bachelor of Science or Diploma in Food Safety/Science program or equivalent experience
  • Solid understanding of Sanitation, HACCP, CCP's and GMP's
  • Solid understanding of MS Excel and SAP
  • Solid understanding of Animal Welfare best practices
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills
  • 23 years' experience in the Food industry preferred
  • Ability to work effectively on a cross functional leadership team.
  • Experience thriving in an everchanging, fastpaced environment.
  • Demonstrated alignment to the Maple Leaf Leadership Values.
