Reporting to the Manager, Traffic Operations in the Work Zone Coordination Unit, the Project Manager will be responsible for providing leadership, direction and supervision to staff.
Project Manager will supervise construction related permit reviews, conditions, prepare staff reports, as well as to investigate 311 calls related to construction and traffic related issues, oversee RoDARS Central review and approvals, and lead traffic mitigation planning.
Major Responsibilities:
- Administer and coordinate construction related permits through RoDARS Central, including investigations on traffic congestion, signage, inappropriate traffic control setups and other constructionrelated problems.
- Leading by example, you'll create an environment conducive to the effective, efficient performance of coordinating construction closures on the public rightofway, construction mitigation, coordination and related traffic operation matters.
- Provide support to the Construction Hub Coordination program
- A strong communicator, you'll liaise with elected and government officials, agencies, the public, resident and business associates, etc., on transportation and constructionrelated issues, represent the Division in meetings and on committees, and prepare, or provide input into the preparation of, bylaws and regulations, as well as supervise their implementation.
- Scheduling and assigning work, coaching and mentoring, determining training and development needs, managing performance, and determining or recommending disciplinary action in accordance with collective agreements, policies and practices.
- Ensuring that staff work in a safe manner, utilizing all required health and safety equipment and protective devices, as well as following all measures and procedures as required by policies and guidelines and the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its Regulations.
- Research, compile and analyze data and prepare, or direct the preparation of, reports to elected officials, members of public, standing committees and City Council, assessing impacts and recommending corrective measures where necessary.
- Advise and respond to requests from the Manager, Director, and/or General Manager on project issues, status, and technical matters
- Supervising, defining, prioritizing, checking, and managing the activities of technical staff (Project Leads and Work Zone Traffic Coordinators)
Key Qualifications:
- Postsecondary education in a discipline pertinent to the job function (e.g. Civil, Transportation Engineering, Traffic Engineering, etc.), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Considerable experience in either Work Zone Coordination, Traffic Operations or a related field.
- Experience in planning, supervising and directing the work of other staff (e.g. leading, motivating, training, monitoring and evaluating performance).
- Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing at all levels of the organization, with other staff, community groups, agencies, elected officials and the public.
- Knowledge of Collective Agreement, related Labour Legislation, Human Rights Code, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, etc.
- Ability to handle daytoday personnel and labour relations issues.
- Ability to effectively represent the Division, to maintain relations and work
internal and external clients and consultants.
