- Maintains the inventory of supplies and course-related equipment as needed for the laboratory/field facility for all programs (HCA, PN, and BScN) including the annual student kit order.
- Maintains laboratory/field work facilities by setting-up and taking-down, cleaning and laundry, maintaining quality of specimen samples and monitoring equipment use and maintenance.
- Operates standard laboratory/field equipment and some specialized equipment. Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions and contacts vendors as needed.
- Trains others in the use of Laboratory/Field equipment and technology.
- Maintains a safe environment in the laboratory.
- Participates in Quality Assurance/Quality Control programs as required by accreditation/approval standards and University protocols/policy.
- Works with faculty to facilitate virtual and integrated simulations.
- Maintains current knowledge of simulation/lab equipment catalogs and operation manuals. Provides recommendations on equipment, supplies and materials.
- Works with faculty to identify optimal use of Laboratory/Field equipment and technology for Laboratory/Field Activities.
- Maintains and identifies any repairs needed for all simulation equipment, including patient simulators, computers, monitors and a variety of medical equipment.
- Provides theatrical production (costuming and moulage) for simulation scenarios as requested.
- Provides technical assistance, support and training to faculty, instructors and staff in use of simulation equipment.
- Maintains simulation activities and learner confidentiality.
- Two (2) year diploma in a medical related field ()
- Three (3) years' laboratory or field experience in a related discipline
- WHMIS Certification
- Demonstrated data entry skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of safe laboratory and field practices
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently
- Knowledge of the methods, materials and techniques used in laboratory/field of the appropriate discipline
- Knowledge of laboratory/field equipment appropriate to the area of the assignment
- Sitting or standing desk for long periods of time
- Dust, fumes, volatile chemicals, biological materials, electromagnetic fields, power tools, low energy radiation from equipment on a frequent basis
- Ability to lift weights in excess of 10 kg
- Some travel within BC may be required
