- Promote the subsidiary businesses units to community members as an "employer of choice" in the community by representing the subsidiaries at job fairs, high school career days, and other opportunities that may present themselves; develop strong partnerships with businesses and schools in the community to recruit local hires
- Provide on-boarding orientation to new hires and co-ordinate employee relocation if required
- Assess each of the business unit needs, execute human resource solutions, and implement existing organizational strategies in the areas of employee relations, training and development, recognition, and employee health and safety
- Provide information regarding mental health and other support resources to all staff and management in the Iqaluit businesses; Provide interpretation of Nunavut employment legislation to management and staff
- Develop and recommend human resource policies and practices for approval by the Vice President, Human Resources and Strategy
- In partnership with the leadership team, provide guidance and recommendations with the development of specific action plans to address employee issues and performance concerns
- Act as lead investigator for complaints, determine appropriate action and consult with leadership team to build consensus regarding the approach to resolution.
- Partner with management team to provide safe and suitable housing accommodations in Iqaluit for roles that have a housing benefit; provide leadership team with updates on any housing related concerns including repairs and maintenance required; Attend management meetings
- In consultation with the Vice President, Human Resources and Strategy, effectively manage the annual Human Resources budget as assigned.
- To undertake public relations appearances on behalf of the Co-op System and its partners including occasional visits to local Co-operatives to meet with Boards of Directors and/or other community representatives when required
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources
- Strong skills Microsoft Office applications is required; knowledge of payroll systems would be considered an asset
- Strong administrative skills
- Solid background in management and training of staff
- Understanding and experience in recruitment and retention, employee relations performance management, compensation and benefits, and training and development
- Self motivated, with initiative and leadership qualities
- Grocery or retail industry knowledge is an asset

Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, and as a member of the Arctic Co-operatives organizational leadership team, the HR Business Partner will effectively develop and implement human resources strategies, practices and programs for all of the Iqaluit subsidiary businesses, as well as partner with the human resources team on executing strategies linked to existing programs.
The human resource strategies, practices and programs will include recruitment and selection, adherence to Nunavut Employment legislation, compensation and benefits administration, training and development initiatives, performance management, health and safety, and employee retention.
The HR Business Partner will also have accountabilities to work in close co-operation with the leadership team of the Iqaluit subsidiary operations and provide leadership to represent Arctic Co-operatives operations to successfully meet their stated mission and objectives.
