The teacher is expected to work a flexible schedule compatible to the core operational hours of the program, as well as:

  • Work with teachers from the student/youth's home school (where appropriate) to help students/youth succeed in gaining both theory and practical skills for employment;
  • Provide engaging personalized learning activities connected to core curriculum and workplace training/employability skills;
  • Differentiate lessons and activities for all students/youth, with experience instructing in trades and foster transferable skills necessary for life after school;
  • Maintain a written record of services provided for students/youth and their Workplace Training, Industry Training and/or Career focused transition initiatives;
  • Work with other District programs (ex: SWIS, Burnaby Online, School to Work, ACE-IT, HUB) to develop blended learning programs to meet student/youth needs; and
  • Coordinate work experience opportunities for students/youth and liaise with community partners to monitor student progress.

Knowledge
and
Ability

  • Knowledge of modern teaching methods and techniques (including differentiation and assessment for learning) including the use of technology supported instruction, as well as the use of evidencebased strategies that promote student/youth success;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple activities;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, to express ideas, thoughts, lesson material and instructions clearly to students, community and staff;
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and participate as a member of a multi
- disciplinary team;

  • Proven ability to develop and maintain working relationships with community organizations and businesses in support of student/youth learning;
  • Ability to assess individual needs, establish realistic and appropriate goals and objectives and design and implement a program for each student/youth;
  • Ability to plan and conduct a system of continuous evaluation of each student's progress;
  • Ability to establish and maintain communication between multidisciplinary teams, schoolbased team community partners and community agencies; and
  • Establish and maintain relationships with individuals, groups and companies in the local business communities to promote program linkages to assist vulnerable or atrisk youth with transitioning to construction trades and prepare for employment.

Qualifications:

- a bachelor's degree or academic equivalent in an appropriate field of study;
- a valid BC teaching certificate;
- a knowledge of a broad range of effective instructional strategies in order to meet the diverse needs of all students;
- a knowledge of consultative and collaborative strategies;

  • Strong curricular background and successful teaching experience at the secondary level in Technology Education;
  • Experience and understanding of work experience, industry training options, and Trades training Systems in BC (ITA);
  • Welldeveloped communication, organizational and problemsolving skills;
  • Welldeveloped interpersonal skills including the demonstrated ability to work effectively school and district staff and alongside key community service partner agencies
  • Ability to work comfortably and effectively with general direction;
  • Demonstrated understanding of student capabilities in fields related to the various trades and employment programs; and
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with educators, employers and others in a variety of settings.
