    About WoodWorks

    WoodWorks is a market development program of the Canadian Wood Council and is intended to help increase demand for wood in non-residential and multi-family building markets. The program aims to be the go-to resource for practical wood development, design, and construction expertise providing education and project support to industry professionals. The program seeks to identify barriers to adopting wood construction and develop the means to reduce them.

    Position Overview

    The Technical Advisor will play a crucial role to advance and expand the demand for wood in construction, serving as an educator while also providing project specific guidance to clients. They will be responsible for contacting and developing relationships with design, development and construction industry professionals, encouraging and providing solutions for the use of wood in non-residential and multi-family buildings.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide insight, guidance and technical advice to designers, contractors, and municipal officials to support WoodWorks strategic initiatives.
    • Manage, support and develop technical resources aimed at increasing the capacity of target audiences and address barriers to building with wood.
    • Network with and provide education to the AEC+D community to create new opportunities to build with wood, and understand barriers faced by project stakeholders.
    • Conduct presentations for key target audiences at internal and external events (conferences, tradeshows, webinars, etc.).
    • Assist with the preparation and promotion of targeted events and communication materials.

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • Post-Secondary degree in Structural Engineering, Architecture or a related field.
    • 5+ years of professional experience in Structural Engineering, Architecture or similar background.
    • Knowledge of BCBC and local design and construction practices.
    • Experienced with light-wood frame and/or mass timber construction.

    Beneficial:

    • Knowledge and experience with whole-building LCA, embodied carbon calculations and building performance scoring systems (ie. Passive House, LEED, Living Building Challenge, etc.)
    • Experience with embodied carbon policies and navigating municipal approvals processes.

    Important Skills

    To succeed as the Technical Advisor, within the WoodWorks team you will have:

    • Excellent oral and written communication skills to engage with a wide variety of stakeholders.
    • The ability to work independently, setting and achieving goals.
    • The ability to work in a small, remote team environment with multiple priorities and deadlines.

    Working at CWC

    Applicants will work from a home office within the greater Vancouver area while being part of a team across the province and reporting to the WoodWorks provincial Director. You will be required to travel frequently within the Lower Mainland and occasionally to other parts of British Columbia and across Canada. International travel may be required occasionally.
