Seniors, Community and Social Services provides supports for seniors, families and communities, and helps Albertans access disability services, financial supports, affordable housing, services for the homeless, and other social-based programs.

The Ministry supports Albertans through a person-centered, integrated service delivery model that recognizes the unique circumstances, experiences and strengths of individuals and families.


Role Responsibilities:


The Ministry of Seniors, Community and Social Services is currently seeking two Senior Financial Assistance Coordinators to join their dynamic team within the Seniors Services Division.


As the Senior Financial Assistance (SFA) Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the departments mandate to ensure the independence and well-being of Alberta seniors.

As the SFA Coordinator, you have the important role of determining eligibility for the Alberta Seniors Benefit and the Dental and Optical Assistance programs using current legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Reporting to the Team Lead, Alberta Seniors Benefit the Seniors Financial Assistance Coordinator is responsible for:

  • Determining Eligibility
  • Assessing seniors eligibility for applicable social based programs and services within the context of current legislation, regulations, and policies


  • Income Renewal

  • Annual recalculation of benefit eligibility for seniors beginning July 1st of each year to maximize changes in eligibility


  • Maintain Corporate Database

  • Maintains corporate database that facilitates effective delivery of the Alberta Seniors Benefit, Special Needs Assistance, Seniors Property Tax Deferral, and the Dental and Optical Assistance programs


  • System Testing

  • Responsible for manual calculations and data analyses to ensure changes in regulatory policy and operational guidelines are reflected in the system


  • Payment Management

  • Works closely with Payment Management Unit to research, and process returned payments and other payment requests.

Qualifications:


Minimum Recruitment Standard:


  • A High School Diploma and 4 years of directly related experience is required.

Equivalency:

Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of: one year of experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.


Experience in the following areas is
required:


  • Working with benefit programs
  • Experience in determining benefit eligibility
  • Experience working with financial information
Experience in the following areas is considered an
asset:

  • Experience with any of the provincial Seniors Financial Assistance programs
  • Knowledge of federal Seniors Programs
  • Knowledge of legal documents (eg. Power of Attorney, Personal Directives, Wills, etc.
