    Description

Oak Valley Health is one of Ontario's leading community health systems providing high quality, patient-centred care to more than 474,000 patients each year at three locations: Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH), Uxbridge Hospital (UXB), and Reactivation Care Centre (RCC). We offer diagnostic and emergency services and deliver clinical programs in acute care medicine and surgery, addictions and mental health, and childbirth and children's services and are proud to be part of the Eastern York Region North Durham Ontario Health Team. Our staff, physicians and volunteers serve patients and families with an honoured to care mindset and are focused on delivering an extraordinary patient experience to our communities.

We are currently seeking a full-time, 1.0 AFP funded, Hematologist who will be responsible for coverage of a malignant hematology practice while also taking part in benign hematology work within our hospital clinic. You would be joining our existing group of two hematologists, five medical oncologists, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, a drug navigator, social workers and dieticians. The clinic is very well supported and no overhead is expected.

We also have a dedicated outpatient palliative care clinic and community palliative care team that assists with patient care. Interdisciplinary care is shared with tertiary care facilities, in addition to regional cancer centers offering radiation. Bone marrow biopsies and treatments such as IV iron, phlebotomies, etc are all coordinated in our Medical Day Unit. Multidisciplinary tumour boards are held biweekly in conjunction with Southlake Regional Care Centre. We are also a proud member of the Princess Margaret Cancer Care Network, with streamlined access to consultations and collaborative care with the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

Call responsibility is expected to be shared equally within the Hematology division. Call duties would include seeing new hematology referrals for patients admitted to hospital or the emergency department. Support is provided to patients admitted to Uxbridge Hospital via consultations/telephone support. There is no requirement to do Internal Medicine overnight or daytime call as this responsibility is assumed by a strong General Internal Medicine division. MRP coverage is optional.
