Laundry Attendant

Reports to:_ Environmental Manager

Qualifications:_
- Previous housekeeping experience, preferably in hospitality or a retirement home.
- Previous employment in a health care/hospitality setting an asset.
- Demonstrated understanding of/empathy for the needs of the elderly.
- Ability to speak, read and write English. Must be able to follow oral and written directions and to do simple arithmetic calculations.
Physical Demands:_
- Standing for extended periods of time - for up to 8hrs/day.
- Walking short distances and manoeuvring in tight spaces within resident suites.
- Pulling/pushing/bending/lifting cleaning carts, chemical pails, etc., up to 50lbs.
- Reaching to upper shelving - at times with use of an 18inch to 3ft step ladder.
- Repetitive arm and upper body motions in intervals for periods of up to 8hrs for sweeping, wiping.
- Working in warm temperatures for extended periods of time.
- Some memory work required to know Residents and preferences.
Responsibilities:_
- Maintain a clean, safe environment in the residence.
- Work as a member of a team with all other residence personnel.
- Be knowledgeable of and practice residence's fire and safety programs.
- To sort, wash, dry and fold laundry
- To store and deliver linens and personal clothing.
- Report malfunctions in equipment and repairs needed to Environmental Department through the Maintenance Memo Book.
- Notify Manager when housecleaning suppliers are low.
Job Description:
Risk Management and General Safety_
- Partners with community team to ensure community is in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety requirements and promotion of Risk Management programs and/or policies; adherence to safety rules and regulations.
- Practices safety procedures at all times including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), fire safety procedures including extinguishers (as applicable), SDSs (Safety Data Sheets) and Lockout Tagout procedures.
- Reports all accidents/incidents immediately.
- Reports all unsafe and hazardous conditions/equipment immediately.
- Complies with all infection control techniques, placement of biohazard containers and removal techniques, procedures and policies.
- Participates in Fire Safety and Mock Disaster procedures.
