PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:


Reporting to the Director of Training, the Manager, Learning and Development will be primarily responsible for the development, implementation and sustainment of learning programs, processes, and tools to enhance the capability and effectiveness of employees across CP's workforce.

You will be an integral leader within a diverse, high profile team which is responsible for leadership, technical and employee training; the training audience ranges from the individual contributor, leaders (various levels), cross functional teams and safety critical employees with high potential.


POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:


  • Govern learning design and LMS administration processes and establish metrics related reporting and learning project management;
  • Lead a team of Instructional Designers, LMS professionals and Learning Process Analysts to deliver technical and policy based training initiatives;
  • Ensure risks related to legal and Federal rules (FRA and Transport Canada) are mitigated through strong document retention policies;
  • Liaison and overseer of all learning requests across the company;
  • Research trends related training design (i.e. eLearning, micro learning, curated content, 3D animations and mobile learning);
  • Manager of the SuccessFactors Learning Management System (LMS), including governance of policies and procedures;
  • Collaborate with Information Services on the maintenance and evolution of the LMS;
  • Primary contact for Technical Training Managers for new course development and maintenance requests;
  • Utilizes constructive tension to ensure development resources are prioritized to the most valuable business initiatives;
  • Facilitation of L&D programs and administering learning surveys (i.e. four levels of Kirkpatrick Evaluation model)

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:


  • Related university degree; Masters level preferred or equivalent experience;
  • Proven experience as a Learning and Development Manager, Training Manager for adult education or similar;
  • Current knowledge of effective Learning and Development methods (e.g. ADDIE model);
  • Experience in learning and development program design and delivery;
  • Experience in project management and budgeting;
  • Experience facilitating L&D programs;
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills; sharp business acumen;
  • Change management experience considered an asset;
  • Maintain and develop working knowledge of stakeholder processes in order to efficiently and accurately design and facilitate training;
  • Proven interpersonal skills and motivation to lead others is required;
  • Proven time management skills and excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Have a sense of urgency, prioritize work and make decisions aligned with CP's Values and five Foundations;
  • Able to build trust and credibility through relationships, create rapport with a working knowledge of all CP work environments, pressures and their obstacles for success;
  • Effectively communicate with respect and professionalism to all internal and external customers;
  • Express ideas, communicate, facilitate and present information in a clear, concise, engaging, informative, and enthusiastic;
  • Recognize and respond effectively to unexpected situations and tight deadlines.
  • Previous experience in heavy industry (transportation, logistics, supply chain management, military, airlines, mining, manufacturing, energy etc.) considered an asset;
  • Railway experience is an added advantage;

Management Conductor Program:


Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CP.
