The Sandblaster reports directly to the Paint Shop Supervisor
Responsibilities & Duties:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Review work orders and follow work instructions, procedures and checklists to ensure that materials and equipment needed for production are ready and the work area is prepared.
- Read, understand and follow drawings, specifications and assembly instructions.
- Operate sandblast booth within guidelines and specifications.
- Sandblast surfaces of products such as metal products, fabricated parts or large military vehicles to remove paint, grease, rust, and dirt, using abrasiveblasting equipment, such as sand.
- Mask specified areas of object to protect from abrading action.
- Operate valves on equipment to regulate pressure and composition of abrasive mixture flowing through nozzle.
- Perform visual inspections to ensure quality standards are met.
- Work with the supervisor to resolve any technical, productivity, safety or schedule problems.
- Perform general shop duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Consistently meet all specifications and standards in production.
- Ensure work is performed safely and efficiently, with mínimal waste.
- Meet the productivity standards as established in the shop.
- Responsible for assisting in meeting all production schedules and deadlines.
- Operate machinery and use tools safely.
- May act as a team leader for small groups of employees.
- Report broken or damaged machinery promptly.
- Assist in any work area and aid other team members when assigned.
- Clean work areas as required.
- Wear and use appropriate safety equipment.
Other:
- Travel as required.
- Adhere to all environmental, health and safety regulations and follow the environmental and quality management systems.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience working in a highvolume production facility.
- Experience operating a variety of equipment and machines, including blasting machinery.
- Ability to sandblast different types of materials or products such as metal products, fabricated parts or large military vehicles.
- Experience reading blueprints an asset.
- Must have, or be eligible to receive all current applicable certifications.
