    Duties

    SU-01 - Office Administration (Peterborough)

    General administrative support within various departments, including Finance, Operations and Human Resources. Duties will include - among other things -filing, records management, data entry, revenue reconciliation, interview scheduling and client service.

    SU-02 - Communications and Social Media (Peterborough)

    Research & preparation of stories for media, magazines, and websites in collaboration with subject matter experts. Create information and special event posters, news letters, incorporating Parks Canada design standards. Create Facebook, Twitter posts, design S/M campaigns, website editing and monitoring.

    SU -03 - Environmental Services Student (Peterborough)

    Students will support our Environmental Services team by conducting in the field (on land and on water) resource management programs, for instance monitoring and control of invasive species, shoreline assessments, environmental stewardship and fish spawning surveys. Work will also include consolidating and summarizing data, developing program guidance documents, information management, improving training materials, collecting information and providing administrative support.

    SU-04- Videographer/Photographer (Peterborough)

    These students will use their skills in video and photography to document our celebrations and our many infrastructure projects.

    SU-05 Visitor Experience & Special Events Team (Peterborough)

    These students will deliver interpretive presentations, programs and activities to provide visitors of our historic sites with opportunities to discover, appreciate, learn about them and their natural and cultural resources and their significance to Canada.

    SU-06- Geomatics Student (Peterborough)

    Provides geomatics technical services in the manipulation, analysis, integration, and presentation of geospatial and non-geospatial data to functional specialists and managers of the field unit. Maintains field unit geospatial and non-geospatial data and information in support of management activities and local implementations of national systems that utilize geomatics.

    Ontario's historic canals are defining features of Canada and provide communities and visitors with beauty, recreation, and a unique sense of history. Parks Canada plays a leadership role in the protection of these special places.

    The Trent-Severn Waterway is a National Historic Site, 386 km in length, which links Lake Ontario at Trenton with Lake Huron at Port Severn on Georgian Bay and attracts about 1.4 million visitors each year offering heritage tourism and recreation.

    Intent of the process

    The intent of this process is to hire students for the summer of 2024, for a determinate period. Qualified students may be offered other student employment opportunities at the Trent-Severn Waterway.

    EDUCATION (ALL STREAMS):

    • Students who are currently enrolled in full-time or part-time studies at an accredited institution.

    EXPERIENCE:

    SU-01 - Office Administration

    • Experience working in a team environment.
    ASSET EXPERIENCE:

    • Experience working with financial data would be an asset.

    SU-02 - Communications and Social Media

    • Experience working in a team environment;

    • Fluency with Hootsuite, Twitter, and Facebook.

    SU-03 - Environmental Services Student

    • Experience conducting field studies (e.g. ecology, biology, environmental studies, geography or botany).
    Asset Experience:

    • Experience using a canoe or kayak and/or operating a motorboat

    • Experience to trailer a boat

    • Experience swimming (e.g. treading water for 30 seconds, swimming 100m with ease)

    SU-04 - Videographer/Photographer

    • Experience, education or training in videography and photography;

    • Experience utilizing photo and video editing software.

    SU-05 - Visitor Experience & Special Events Team

    • Experience teaching/presenting/performing in front of the general public;

    • Experience working in a customer service setting;
    ASSET EXPERIENCE:

    • Experience in heritage interpretation, theatre/performing arts, or story-telling.

    • Experience or training in special events logistics.

    SU-06 - Geomatics Student

    • Recent experience using ESRI software (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online) and Microsoft Office Applications (e.g. Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint);

    • Experience in cartographic production and creating high quality maps in ESRI software.

    KNOWLEDGE:

    SU-03 - Environmental Services Student

    • Knowledge of aquatic ecosystem ecology.

    SU-05 - Visitor Experience & Special Events Team

    • Knowledge of the Parks Canada Agency and the historic canals/waterways, and the services they provide to the public.

    SU-06 - Geomatics Student

    • Knowledge of geospatial data analysis and geomatics methodologies, systems, standards and tools;

    • Knowledge of cartographic and metadata standards;

    • Knowledge of data management tools and techniques.

    ABILITIES:

    SU-01 - Office Administration

    • Ability to use of various software programs (e.g. MS Word and MS Excel).

    • Ability to provide administrative support services in an office environment, including preparing routine correspondence and maintaining files.

    SU-02 - Communications and Social Media

    • Ability to assist in web development, including web writing and editing;

    • Ability to assist in photo cataloging, selection and preparation for web.

    SU-03 – Environmental Services Student

    • Ability to safely conduct field work/monitoring

    SU-04 - Videographer/Photographer

    • Ability to use technology.

    SU-05 - Visitor Experience & Special Events Team

    • Ability to take initiative and self-direct.

    SU-06 -Geomatics Student

    • Ability to assess information required to construct qualitative and quantitative products such as graphics, maps, charts, databases and reports;

    • Ability to prioritize own workload and work independently with minimal supervision.
