  • As our new Wildlife Ecologist, you will play an important role on a team whose work is essential to achieving this goal

Job Description:


  • Working closely with our Canadawide Ecology and Biodiversity Team, you'll prepare health and safety plans, coordinate field events, conduct the full scope of field work programs (including wildlife surveys, nest sweeps etc.), data management and analysis, and technical report preparation. You will be supported by our team to build skills and proficiencies working with clients and regulators to develop technical scopes of work, prepare proposals, and manage and deliver projects. Success in this role will require the ability to manage competing priorities and assignments, as well as maintain the ability to remain flexible, independent, and possess a significant attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities


You will also:


  • Collect and synthesize scientific literature, existing data sets and secondary source material for technical reports, proposals, and meetings
  • Lead the execution of field programs
  • Analyze and interpret data, and prepare aquatic technical reports
  • Identify potential impacts to ecosystems resulting from land use changes, and recommend suitable mitigation to avoid and / or reduce potential impacts
  • Assist in the development, management, and maintenance of complex technical projects involving client portfolios, schedules, budgets, and technical deliverables
  • Provide effective leadership, support, and training to junior staff
  • Provide technical expertise to other technical disciplines within SLR
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with subconsultants and contractors

Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience as an Ecologist/Biologist in the environmental consulting industry, with a specialization in birds considered an asset.
  • Degree (B.Sc.), in Biology, Ecology or Natural Sciences (M.Sc. is considered an asset)
  • Knowledge and experience with identification (sight, sound, and sign) and and understanding of the natural history and habitat of wildlife in western Canada.
  • Ability to work in the field, including remote locations valid driver's license required
  • Indepth knowledge and experience with the scientific study, design, and implementation of field protocols
  • Experience in database management, statistical data analysis, and interpretation
  • Excellent research skills and experience with report writing
  • Experience navigating permitting and authorization processes related to Canadian federal, provincial, and regional legislation and policies
  • Field coordination and time management skills including planning and scheduling and the ability to produce deliverables on time
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with senior level staff, other technical disciplines and clientsCountry
