Introduction


The world's largest fossil fuel producers are already on track to produce more than twice the amount of coal, oil and gas than can ever be burned if we are to hit our climate targets.

The Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative champions a new international mechanism to complement the Paris Agreement, one that would hold governments accountable for their fossil fuel production plans in an effort to advance a just transition.


The Position


The North America Project Manager will further scale the Fossil Fuel Treaty campaign and major moments across the United States and Canada, with a focus on amplifying and supporting the momentum building behind the proposal around the world.

The North America Project Manager will join the fast-growing International Support Team for the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative.

The role will have a significant focus on our activities in NYC during Climate Week and the UN General Assembly (as well as the Summit for the Future in 2024), supporting our major projects management with on-ground capacity.


They will work closely with partners, civil society organisations and frontline movements to ensure that this global campaign scales across the United States and Canada and complements powerful frontline resistance against the expansion of fossil fuels across North America, particularly supporting and recoginsing the critical leadership Indigenous peoples have in keeping fossil fuels in the ground.

This role willsit on our Campaigns Team and work closely with Partnerships, Communications, and Political staff with the ultimate goal of creating major moments and activating North American based press, organisations and high-profile individuals with global reach to amplify the Fossil Fuel Treaty proposal to increase momentum globally particularly in a number of target countries.


Reaching this goal will require a skilled project manager and network organiser who can help engage a powerful network of organisations, movements and individuals across North America to support the Treaty demand and inject further momentum into our global strategy especially around key moments.

This will involve coordination with our growing network of civil society organisations, high-profile individuals, youth activists, cities and subnational governments.


Key Responsibilities

Support project management and event logistics for our major moments around NYC Climate Week, the UN General Assembly and the 2024 Summit for the Future

Secure and amplify high-profile city and subnational endorsements across North America to build further momentum behind the Fossil Fuel Treaty proposal

Foster and deepen partnerships with North American institutions and civil society organisations from a broad range of constituencies, expanding and activating the network of groups and voices calling for nations globally to to support a Fossil Fuel Treaty.

Help craft and execute a campaign strategy to build and demonstrate public support for a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty across the United States and Canada

Support public communications in North America especially via channels with global reach, demonstrating growing support for the Fossil Fuel Treaty through collaboration with the Communications Team particularly on social media and traditional media strategy

Support fundraising efforts to increase capacity for the Treaty campaign through engagement with North American foundations and philanthropy to inject further capacity into partner organisations and campaigns globally


Experience and attributes:


Required:


  • A deep passion for climate justice and supporting an equitable transition to a world without coal, oil or gas.
  • At least 5 years of experience in campaigning or network organising
  • Experience in engaging and activating a network of organisations and individuals to join a campaign and advocate for a specific policy demand
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills, strong initiative, and motivation.
  • Commitment to contributing to an antiracist, decolonial, inclusive organisational culture.
  • Ability to work irregular hours and with a remote and virtual team to participate in a global initiative.
  • Fluency in English is required.

Desired:


  • Fluency in Spanish and other languages is highly desired.
  • A deep understanding of the North American political landscape, particularly in energy, extraction
