***The Assistant Dining Room Supervisor works under direction of the Dining Room Supervisor for assisting in the delivery of quality resident-focused meal service and for the functioning of the Food Service Department:
  • Directs and supervises staff engaged in the provision of quality food services.
  • Provides administrative support to the Dining Room Supervisor and the dietary department.
  • Maintains dining room procedures for all servers and ensures resident safety is a priority through all meal service.
  • Provides competency review and training to dining room servers.
  • Acts as a resident advocate and a change agent in the pursuit of continuous quality improvement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

HEALTH, SAFETY AND WELLNESS

  • Committed to knowing, understanding and reviewing your workplace hazards as identified by your Workplace Hazard Assessment, Joint Workplace Health and Safety Committee and as outlined in Canterbury Foundations Policies and Procedures.
  • Participates in making the workplace a safe environment for staff and residents by reporting unsafe conditions, correcting unsafe behaviors of the dietary staff, knowing your rights as an employee to refuse unsafe work, and by participating in training, events and committees.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, footwear and apparel for your role and responsibility for your work day (being mindful of hazards approaching and leaving the workplace).
  • Train other staff in the Canterbury Safety Program components (OHS / Emergency Response) and provide auditing and competency review.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in the Dining Room Preparation, Meal Service and Cleanliness of dietary area, as required.
  • Daily monitoring and correction of payroll information for dietary staff.
  • Provides supervision of Lane meal service.
  • Anticipates residents needs and ensures that service meets/exceeds expectations to ensure pleasant dining experiences.
  • Ensures the utilization of the safe food handling in the delivery of quality meal service.
  • Monitors sanitary standards throughout the department.
  • Inspects dining room, table settings, chairs, floors, proper maintenance, cleanliness and safety.
  • Takes immediate action to correct deficiencies of equipment through proper tagoff and reporting procedures.
  • Maintains uniform service standards.
  • Assists in receiving of deliveries and inventory control of food supplies, small wares, cutlery, etc. in Court and Manor Dining Rooms.
  • Assists in managing work schedules for all employees in all facets of dining room service.
  • Responsible for reconciliation of meal ticket sales with meals served.
  • Documents pertinent information as it relates to the resident nutritional needs and reports all relevant information about the Resident and/or family to the Executive Chef and the Director, Health Services.
  • Investigates Residents/family/staff complaints and provides a written report with actions to resolve the issue to the Dining Room Supervisor.
  • Understands and complies with the legal requirements of licensure, legislation, scope of practice, and policies and procedures at all times and upholds the health standard regulation requirements.
  • Questions policies and procedures inconsistent with resident outcomes, best practices and safety standards.
  • Leads and coaches staff so as to create a healthy work environment and works with staff to enable them to make optimum use of their skills, knowledge and abilities.
  • Under the direction of the Dining Room Supervisors, assists in the orientation of new staff according to the assessed needs of the individual employee, trains newhires in service standards and menu items.
  • Maintains dietary logs and other daily records; provides reports on records when required.
  • Collaborates with others to ensure organizational resources are used effectively and efficiently.
  • Participates in the development, implementation and monitoring of Infection Control and Occupational health and Safety guidelines and Best Practices. Identifies safety hazards, participates in problem resolution and reports to the Dining Room Supervisor.
  • In the absence of Dining Room Supervisor, may make higher level decisions for the Food Services department.
  • Awareness of accident and injury prevention, hazard identification and control; adherence to safe work practices and procedures.
  • Participates in the coordination of staff
