The Accounting Associate contributes to Henry Walser Funeral Home's mission to be a team of caring and
compassionate professionals who are committed to providing funeral services that help families and friends honour
their departed loved ones in a manner that helps to facilitate the healing process by ensuring the accuracy of the
information and data within the accounting processes are maintained to achieve the overall financial objectives of the
team.
Operational Responsibilities

  • Responsible for preparing accurate invoices for families including checking files to ensure all services, products
and disbursements are included, completing contracts and ensuring it is signed and copy is included for the
family, sending appropriate documents required for prepaid accounts and ensuring everything is entered into
accounting program

  • Record deposits in accounting program and the Osiris database, prepare deposit sheets and take deposits to the
bank and send thank you letters to family once account is paid in full

  • Review all payable invoices to ensure disbursements are entered on appropriate contract, match with packing
slips for delivery and enter into accounting program

  • Prepare standard payable payments in accordance with payment schedule constantly monitoring any specific
from funeral directors or from notes in the file

  • As part of month end procedures, confirm that all funerals that occurred in the month are entered into
accounting program, ensure all payments received are entered into bank account and tally up the funerals into
categories

  • Balance all debit slips on a daily basis and on a monthly basis, balance the debit bank account and donations
bank account

  • Monitor and reconcile the petty cash and on a monthly basis post visa receipts and reconcile visa accounts
  • File At Need files ensuring they are complete as well as filing of all paid invoices, copies of received payment and
all other documentation that comes into the accounting department

  • Provide assistance to the front desk during busy periods as well as all other team members when required
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications, Skills, Attributes
Experience, Education, and Technical Skills

  • Diploma or degree from a recognized college or university in accounting, bookkeeping, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in an accounting function

  • Ability to follow clear directions and procedures as majority of the work is done within a welldefined framework
and follows established procedures

  • Basic problemsolving skills are required
  • High level of analytical reasoning and attention to detail

Working conditions and physical demands
Environment

  • Work is performed in the funeral home in a controlled environment
  • Work is completed in an extended sitting position with some opportunity for standing and walking throughout
the day

  • Governed by strict deadlines, despite regular interruptions and scheduling and workflow adjustments that can
occur at any time
Physical Effort

  • Physical demands for the position are light. The majority of the work is performed at a desk, with an
opportunity to walk and change positions throughout the day. Regular computer use is required, but work is not
generally repetitive in nature
Mental Effort

  • Moderate mental effort required to handle multiple, at times conflicting activities that require interpersonal
communication and interaction

  • Extended periods of concentration are required when working with detailed information
