Description:

Under the direction of the Controller and Director of Financial Services, the incumbent is responsible for providing financial management expertise and advice to the University community.

This is accomplished with an advanced knowledge of financial planning, in-depth knowledge of accounting principles in Canada and other jurisdictions within a University business environment.

The incumbent develops strategic initiatives through the preparation of various complex financial analysis and reports and provides advice and guidance to various divisions.

The incumbent also recommends financial policy and procedural changes to senior management and implements them in a complex and changing environment.

The incumbent also supervises a team of accounting professionals.

Qualifications Required:

I

EDUCATION:
University degree and a professional accounting designation from a recognized professional accounting program.

II

EXPERIENCE:
Five to eight years of relevant experience, preferably in the University sector. In depth knowledge in the area of accounting, finance, financial controls and information systems. Solid knowledge of University policies.

III

SKILLS:
Advanced proficiency with spreadsheets and word-processing software preferably MS Excel and MS Word.

IV

OTHER:

The incumbent must have strong leadership capability, excellent judgement, ability to interpret and evaluate policy and procedural requirements, analyse data and demonstrates initiative and independent and create thinking.

Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to deal with multiple priorities and short deadlines. Good organizational skills and accuracy in work.

NOTE:
Overtime may be required at year end.
