About the Role:

The Barrett Centre provides crisis intervention supports to all those aged 16+ of any gender identity.

The program provides services including 16 short-term respite beds, in-person and telephone support, information and referral; crisis assessment, counseling and support; symptom stabilization for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis.

All services are supported by a diverse team of staff including Peer Support, Harm Reduction, and various community partners in addition to the Mental Health Crisis Workers.

Barrett Centre is committed to the promotion of Anti-Racism/Anti-Oppression and Harm Reduction based practices in all of the services provided.


In a compassionate, hospitable, and non-judgmental manner the Crisis Phone Line Worker will be responsible for: risk and suicide assessment, crisis intervention, de-escalating strategies, crisis counseling; individual support; linkage and community referral; advocacy; collaboration and coordination with other service providers; all via the 24hr Crisis Phone Line.


What We Look For

  • Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
  • Post Secondary education or working towards Post Secondary education in Social Services, Crisis Management, Addictions etc.
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations and guidelines of this Government Program
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must provide a valid current Vulnerable Sector Police Check
  • Knowledge of child/youth development
  • Excellent communication, teambuilding, negotiating and problemsolving skills
  • Fluency in French and/or a language in addition to English is an asset
  • CPR Training is an asset
  • Meet all of the guidelines set out by the Government for the Canadian Summer Jobs Program
