Job Description:


Accountabilities:

  • Coordinate and liaise with clinical research personnel for the collection and processing of bio specimens and tissues of patients enrolled in clinical trials
  • Biospecimen collection and processing for all clinical trials as per the study guidelines
  • Receiving and processing of tissues and slides from other hospital and research centres
  • Receiving and processing of slides from the Department of Pathology
  • Receive and unpack specimens delivered by pneumatic tube system, courier and hospital staff (and outpatients if required)
  • Prepare and ship samples to referral laboratories including documentation, labelling and packaging in shipping containers at suitable conditions to maintain specimen integrity
  • Collection and processing of laboratory samples and completion of corresponding requisitions for central laboratory submission
  • Labeling of blood collection tubes and aliquot tubes as per the study protocol
  • Attend the site initiation meetings and communicate any relevant information about the trial to Laboratory staff
  • Manage, log and store laboratory kits in the laboratory, monitors and maintains inventory
  • Order supplies such as dry ice, shipping boxes, maintain waybills and commercial invoices
  • Proper storage and discarding of specimens in accordance with retention policies and biohazard waste protocols
  • Performs temperature monitoring of refrigerators, freezers and incubators
  • Maintains confidentiality in accordance with Osler policy
  • Participates in site initiation visits and laboratory related training for the study
  • Other duties as assigned according to training and scope of practice
  • May be required to crosstrain into other laboratory areas based on operational need

Qualifications:


  • Successful completion of an Ontario secondary school diploma
  • Graduate of certified medical laboratory assistant/technician program/licensed phlebotomist preferred
  • Experience in clinical research and/or Clinical Research Certificate Program preferred
  • Transport of dangerous goods knowledge and training
  • Current certification and registration with MLPAO and/or CSMLS preferred
  • Minimum two years experience working in a hospital pathology laboratory setting is preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
  • Knowledge of Meditech, Paradigm, LabLion and Microsoft Office programs would be an asset
  • Excellent organization and communication skills
  • Proven ability to be a team player
  • Strong multitasking and problemsolving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and maintain high level of productivity, competence and professionalism
  • Excellent attendance, punctuality and work record
