The Village of McBride is seeking an experienced Public Works Manager to join our team.
Under the direction of the CAO, the Manager of Public Works (exempt) is responsible for the safe and efficient delivery of a range of services in the planning, organization, control, and direction of issues related to water, sewer, roads and drainage systems, solid waste, snow clearing operations, fleet and heavy equipment management, and maintenance of public infrastructure.
The Public Works Operations Manager is a permanent full-time position and has a salary range of $90,000 - $100,000 per annum.
Position Overview
The Manager will provide leadership to ensure the Village's infrastructure is well maintained through effective planning and maintenance and will coordinate with the CAO to prioritize the implementation of Capital Works projects.
Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities of the Public Works Manager will include, but will not be limited to, the following:
- Provides leadership, field supervision and technical guidance to the Public Works Foreman and the Public Works crew engaged in the maintenance and repair of the Village's public works and parks infrastructure, ensuring crews are working effectively and efficiently;
- Actively manages projects and exercises independent judgment to determine work methods and prioritization of projects, including the development of annual work plans;
- Manages Staff performance, including hiring, coaching, retention, discipline, and day to day management practices;
- Ensures compliance with applicable bylaws, policies, and the Collective Agreement;
- Assists with preparation and administration of the annual operational and capital budgets and multiyear financial plan;
- Develops and implements and Occupation Health & Safety program, factoring in the rules and regulations under WorkSafe BC legislation;
- Develops training and development program for Public Works staff in conjunction with the Chief Administrative Officer; and
- Provide emergency operations management as a key member of the Village's Emergency Operations Centre function as required.
Qualifications:

- Technical experience and responsibilities in areas such as the following: water, sewer, roads, drainage, solid waste, fleet and heavy equipment;
- Either currently hold or be willing to obtain valid certificates from the Environmental Operators Certification Program in areas such as municipal water and wastewater systems;
- Oversee planning and maintenance of Village buildings;
- Ability to troubleshoot difficult situations and deal courteously with concerned citizens; and
- Valid BC Driver's Licence (minimum Class 5).
