    Job Duties Job Duties The Research Finance Officers are responsible for the financial management of research funds for several schools and centers.

    This includes financial reporting and analysis, forecasting, expenditure monitoring, compliance oversight, cash flow management, and audit facilitation. The funding is from various, diverse sources including external agencies, foundations, research institutes, donations, and private sector companies.

    The scope of this position also includes complex projects that are cross-disciplinary and multi-institutional and can involve foreign funding or activities based in foreign countries.

    They are the connection point between the Office of Applied Research & Innovation (OARI) and other departments such as Finance (Payroll, Accounts payable, Accounts Receivable, Procurement, Budget analysts), HR, ITS, Communications, Strategy, Advancement, etc.

    They are responsible to account for the received funds and are responsible for the financial and HR procedures like budgeting, invoicing, purchasing, hiring, processing timesheets, ensuring that expenses under each fund are aligning with funders regulations and guidelines, and by the end of the project they are responsible for financial reporting externally and internally.

    This position provides exemplary financial management to our research community. This position supports the manager and is responsible for the financial oversight of internal research opportunities in the institution.

    They are also responsible for financial management of internship programs for student researchers, for reporting to different federal, provincial and all other types of funders (including but not limited to, Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, National Research Council Canada, Mitacs, PrairiesCan, Canada Foundation for Innovation).

    Reporting also includes partners such as not-for-profit and private companies.


    Additionally, this position provides research metrics and stats internally to the AVP, Strategy, Senior Leadership, and for Sask Polytech's annual report.

    Stats and metrics are also provided externally to different agencies such as Polytechnics Canada, CICan, and Research InfoSource. Each group requires a unique combination of metrics to be reported.

    QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE Specific Accountabilities Duties Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities (QSA) 1. Degree in business administration, finance, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    • Three years of recent relevant experience in Research/financial administration.
    • Demonstrated Advanced level experience using Microsoft Office applications (i

    Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point, Explorer, Teams).

    • Advanced working knowledge of financial information systems, financial analysis, statistical reporting and data management including but not limited to, GAAP – Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, and GST and PST regulations.
    • Ability to identify, clarify and analyze issues, provide recommendations, implement solutions, and report on critical and/or confidential issues.
    • Establish and maintain positive working relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Ability to Interpret and apply policies and procedures and great understanding of labor standards.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to lead, collaborate and work well in teams with a high level of initiative and motivation.
